Saborio or Lindpere are great candidates for Newcomer...Henry shouldn't be on there. He's played marginally more minutes this season that I have, and the biggest impact he has had was injuring Kevin Hartman.

The coach of the year award is stacked. You can't go wrong with any of the three.

Weak attendance in Colorado for the playoff opener.

I don't think he could justify that to the fans. They need a proven, champions league-level keeper.

Almunia & Fabianski never were and I don't really see him spending a lot to get one. The American reputation of keepers might be enough, and Wenger has developed a reputation of being very frugal. They say he is high on Szczesny though I know very little about him outside of being very young.

Dempsey with the 1st half brace vs Wigan. City down 2-1 to Wolves too and Chelsea even with Blackburn.

Both Dempsey goals were fantastic. Salcido provided the cross on the first, and the celebration after was pretty great. CONCACAF reppin'.

Bizarre stuff in the Spurs-United game. Nani gets hauled down with no call, Gomes assumes it's a free kick, puts the ball down, and Nani just walks up and kicks it into the net. Goal stands, 2-0 to United.

Chicharito is really good.

Probably should have been a PK but then with no PK call, it should have been an intentional handball on Nani and a Tottenham free kick. But since the ref never called anything, Gomes is a dope for putting the ball on the ground.

The RSL/FCD series is fantastic. After both sides went to 10 men in the 2nd, FC Dallas' Avila struck a wicked, wicked shot to go up 2-1 late, Ned Grabavoy blew a high-school level chance to equalize in the 90th minute, and the return leg is almost guaranteed to be epic. RSL just don't lose at Rio Tinto, and FC Dallas is really good.

Freddy Montero got a green card today, he's never played in a FIFA competition in his 4 Columbia caps, Columbia snubbed him in the friendly this month...time to get the citizenship process rolling?

Gareth Bale is just annihilating Maicon and the Inter defense today. He's doing whatever he wants down the left side.

Bale carved his Christmas turkey early this year. Good god Maicon looked slow?!?! And weak?! Last fixture was his coming out party, but tonight was a complete performance of 90 dominating minutes. He was world class tonight.

Steve Zakuani also got his green card and could now potentially play for either Congo, England, or the US. Says he will make an announcement after the playoffs.

(Can Montero play for a couple national teams now?) "Montero's locked in because he's already played in a CONMEBOL qualifier either for the Copa America or I think it was actually a World Cup qualifier. Once he's played in a World Cup qualifier and he's above the age of 23 I think you're locked in."

Bummer.

How many votes are there this time around? I am starting to think only maybe 5 people should even be allowed to vote considering corruption as always been a big part of the voting process.

The man who secured this year's World Cup for South Africa says he tried to get England to withdraw from the 2006 bidding by offering Nelson Mandela's support for a 2010 English bid.

While South Africa did get Brazil to pull out of the 2006 bidding, England stayed in the contest with South Africa -- and the tournament went to Germany instead.

Danny Jordaan, chief executive of the organizing committee for the World Cup in South Africa, is now part of the FIFA inspection team touring nations bidding for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments. That vote is in December.

Jordaan's revelations about insider deals a decade ago come as FIFA's ethics committee investigates claims 2018 contender Spain-Portugal and 2022 candidate Qatar have broken rules by colluding to swap votes.

Jordaan disclosed Wednesday he wanted Brazil and England out of the 2006 vote to give South Africa a "stronger chance" of winning.
