Ugh, Liverpool matches up with Inter? Doubt that turns out well.

If Gerrard can pull out another miracle he will be close to Sainthood.

You're implying he isn't already?

Well two of his miracle's resulted in one trophy, but your probably right.

Miracle #1

Miracle #2 never happens without #1

Miracle #3

I forgot just how good the 2005 Milan were. That games should have never happened which is why I loved it even more.

Everton went a man up around the 72nd minute, but a stunning mental error gives Arsenal a 3-1 lead in the 78th minute. Wow. Not a great moment for Tim Howard.

4-1 was the final as Arsenal jumps back into first.

Ant Tottenham beat Reading 6-4 in a game that saw 8 second half goals. Need to check tivo to see if they will be showing a replay of that. Hopefully that will be the fanzone game of the week .

How much money are United or Chelsea going to have to offer for Tottenham to give up Berbatov?

Oh what the hell. Why not?

According to reports out of Portugal, the Galaxy (an AEG team) are going to trade a bunch of draft picks to the Dynamo (an AEG team) for their DP slot which they will use to sign Figo with whom they have already signed a contract.

80% of their contracts will be tied into Beckham, Donovan, Figo, Cannon and Mathis. So much for not making this the NASL part II I guess. Meanwhile, across town, Chivas is going to play much, much better soccer and for a quarter of the price.

Tottenham came out today and said that they wont sell Berbatov for less then $30m so I would be shocked if either of them end up with him now.

30!?

Maybe if he was English...

Btw, MLS just passed a rule that allows teams to sign players in their youth squads without exposing them to the super draft.

I'm not sure what this means for the future. On one hand it is a great idea to develop US talent, but on the other hand it continues to widen the gap between the haves and have nots with big clubs who are able to spend much more money on their scouting and player development.

Not a lot of incentive to develop players if you have to expose them to a draft if you want to sign them, frankly. A cheap team can let the Red Bulls or the United do the developmental work and draft the rewards. In my opinion, MLS (and US Soccer?) should front a percentage of the youth academy costs for ALL teams -- developing talent is in everyone's interest, no?

Played in my first game tonight in over 5 years. Though it was coed and it was indoors, and the rules are screwy cause its indoors. lost anyways 2-1, but damn I didn't realize how out of game shape I was. Playing tennis simply doesn't do anything for soccer. Did score the only goal though.

First all mens game is Tuesday night. Figure a month of two games a week will help me out a lot.

Stoke completely outplayed Newcastle and should have beaten them. I'm not sure what that says, other than NUFC sucks.

agreed. alardyce is gonna get sacked before the end of the year. at least own played a full 90. in these cup games, i also root for the minnows, especially when the matches are being played at these 15,000 seat stadium.

I was completely enjoying pulling for Stoke. Their fans must have been in absolute heaven for the last 30 minutes or so. They were so unlucky not to have won.

Allardyce is absolutely gong to get sacked. They shouldn't be as bad as they are.

The mid round games in the FA cup are so great. I love nothing more than seeing the upsets. Liverpool has a replay now too against Luton. Does Fanzone do FA Cup games, I would love to hear one of the lower clubs fans.

A question for the US soccer buffs: who is Jarred Jeffrey and what can you tell me about him?

The reason I ask is because he's in winter camp with my boys (see avatar) in Turkey at the moment.

I've never heard of him. I searched the MNT website and didn't find much. He is out of the Bradenton Development academy and last year scored against Brazil for the U-17's.

I know there are a lot of Fire fans who read this thread so I thought I'd share this:

Chicago Fire join the designated player slot chase

The Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA are not alone in their search for a designated player slot.

The Chicago Fire is actively pursuing a designated player slot, sources told SBI on Monday. The Fire, which currently has Cuauhtemoc Blanco in its own designated players slot, is attemping to trade for a second designated player slot for the 2008 season.

Chicago's quest for a second DP slot suggests that new owner Andrew Hauptman is serious about giving the Fire the resources to be a title contender in 2008. It also suggest that the Fire is ready to spend the money it received from the Red Bulls for letting head coach Juan Carlos Osorio go.

While there are at least three teams actively pursuing designated player slots, it remains unclear which, if any, teams are ready to deal them. Los Angeles and Chicago are both flush with cash and draft picks so you should expect at least one of them to be able to pry a DP slot away from a team that isn't interested in footing the hefty bill for a designated player.

Can Chicago really afford the designated player slot? The allocation money received in the Osorio transaction should help, as will the retirements of Chris Armas and Paulo Wanchope.
