That videoclip (the one the NSBB link takes you to) is the WGN post-game interview with O'Malley when he gets the shaving cream pie. Stomper is asking for another part of the post-game show which I haven't seen a videoclip of anywhere.

O'Malley is from Springfield, IL, and the State Journal-Register ran several articles on him being called up.

For Larry and Maggie O'Malley, things were even more hectic. In fact, around 8:30 a.m., Larry - who had gotten the news of his son's promotion two hours earlier - was on the phone with AM Springfield's Sam Madonia telling Madonia that he couldn't get a flight to Houston and it looked like the O'Malleys would be watching their son's major league debut on the big-screen TV at home.

But then family friends Tony Kulavic and Chad Marschik stepped in.

Kulavic, who has his own body shop with a batting cage used by Ryan O'Malley, got a text message from O'Malley telling him he had gotten the call. Marschik, O'Malley's personal trainer from Body Symmetry, checked with McClelland Aviation in Springfield on the availability of an airplane to Houston.

"We were on the plane a little after 10 a.m.," said Kulavic, who was part of the seven-person Springfield contingent that arrived just as the first inning was ending.

Larry and Maggie O'Malley, Tony Kulavic and his son, Brent, Marschik, Bill Heredith and Jeff Bean all were there for Ryan O'Malley's baseball coming-out party.

"We're blessed with good friends," Larry O'Malley said by phone from Houston.

Kulavic said that while the Springfield contingent was waiting for Ryan O'Malley to emerge from the locker room, Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild walked by and said, "I wish we would have known about him before. We should have used him a month ago."

i hope he was joking.

Wowza. Even if he was joking it's not a wise thing to say given the circumstances.

I guess I'm not understanding why this is a big thing. He was walking by the family, and he said one of those funny polite things to say-I'm sure the family got a big kick out of it and that's all.

Come on, you can't see the setting in which that was said? It was a feel-good moment, the family was elated and Rothschild walked by and said some kind words with a joke. I'm sure they all smiled and laughed.
