Although i'm not sure I'd want him to return and risk breaking up the great chemistry we've got going right now. :D Are there any realistic return dates on Lee?

Please tell me that you don't need me to tell you I was being sarcastic!

Yes. I was.

They're not going to bother with any rehab starts?

Idiots.

Considering the situation, what's the benefit of rehab starts?

If they're thinking of inserting him back into the lineup, and they clearly rushed him before, why not give him a rehab start or two in the minors to see if he's really getting any better?

But what's the difference? Can't you tell if he's really getting any better whether he's playing with the big club or at Daytona?

Considering the situation, why bother bringing him back this season? Let him rest it all off season and be 100% next spring. This is the Cubs we are talking about, he could return too early and end up having career ending surgery.

I'd figure the minors would be less stressful, both physically and mentally, and might allow him to help work his wrist back to full strength than just diving into the majors right away.

Why would the team possibly need him ASAP at this point?

I don't think you can really work your wrist back to full strength by going to the minors. Rehab starts would be a good idea to see if he's ready to help the team yet or not, but it makes no difference to his health if he's playing in the majors or the minors right now.

The team doesn't need him, and it would be incredibly foolish to even consider something like rushing him back.

I think it would only make sense to bring him back if he's in absolutely no danger of hurting the wrist again and its basically healed or if its to the point where the only thing left to do is work through it and strengthen the wrist. Getting a month or so of real game time going into next season would be good for him and good for the team to get a better idea of what to expect from him. Now, I don't think he is healed and I have no confidence in the team to not rush him back if they think he's close...

I'd just wait till Sept. Then you don't have to ship another guy back to Iowa for a week or two, and Derrek can just get AB's pinch hitting here and there maybe coming in late to get some defensive work in.

I'd hope for the return date to be February of 2007.

Seconded. As much as I like the guy, I don't want to see him back this year. Just rest the wrist and come back next year.

That being said, if they do bring him back this year, I hope he does well and looks like the 2005 DLee again.

What are they looking for by having him come back at the end of the season? Possibly giving him some bats and letting him get his swing back but then he just has to rest all summer so that doesn't make sense. He could help the team win a few more games, but who cares if they win a few more games right now with him or not. The negitives are easy he isn't 100% and he gets injured and misses any part of next year or is slowed at all.

I think it's a matter of Lee wanting to come back and get to playing again even if its for a couple of weeks. This is his first injury, and if it is safe I don't really want him to stew and wonder if he'll ever be the same again until next season. The Cubs organization needs to make sure though that if he steps on the field this season that he is 100% besides of course being rusty at game action. Basically, I think they need to have extreme care to make sure he is healthy before allowing him to step on the field, but I don't think they should hold Lee back who wants to play so bad if they clear him as fully ready.

If the cubs continue to run Nevin and Mabry out there everyday we run the chance of getting a better draft pick come June. I wish Pagan could play some first , I want Pagan and Murton getting as many at-bats as possible with whats left for the season but Baker will continue to run Pierre and Jones out therer everyday.

What if he's already at 100%? Shouldn't he be playing?

DLee has been with the team even when he was on the DL. He won't break team chemistry.

Absolutely. If DLee's healthy, you play him every chance you get.

Sit him for the rest of the year along with Prior. Why risk it?

Why do that if he's not showing that that needs to be done? Prior, I understand that thinking since he's showing to be almost constantly hurt. Lee is just working back from one injury and he's going to have to play sometime.
