Props to Ryan Harvey for turning a truely awful season into something he can build on going into next year. He can still finish in the .250-.260 range, with 20 HR and 80-85 RBI. That's a good minor league season...he's never been a high average type.

If he gets moved up to AA next year and repeats these numbers (or improves to .270ish) I'll be satisfied. I could care less about K/BB or whatever. He's a masher...he's the type of player who hits 4th/5th on a team and just crushes the ball...and plays a great RF.

If Ryan Harvey can developed into a Carlos Lee type complimentary banger, I will be more then happy. And I am glad he is turning his season around.

Lee is more of a line-drive hitter that goes with pitches and can take a walk. Harvey has got quite a bit more power, but he'll never be as patient as Lee.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Richie Sexon with less OBP and more speed and good defense. He could be the .250-.260, 35-40 HR guy.

While you may not care about K/BB, there's no way in hell that a guy with a ratio of 350/70 in about 300 games will be a decent major leaguer. He'd be like Rob Deer, except worse.

I want him to do what he can do...mash. If it means we have to settle for him hitting 6th/7th and playing a great RF (which is what we have now, save for Jones' throwing arm) then so be it. He may never be that 3/4/5 hitter that we expected with the #6 pick overall....but if he turns out to be a .250, 30 HR type...I'm fine with him playing RF for us.

My point is that he will not be a .250, 30 HR type unless he learns at least a little bit of plate discipline. His OBP in A-ball is .285. Major league pitchers would eat him alive.

Wade Miller only topped out in the mid-80s at Round Rock yesterday:

Des Moines Register[/url]"]Former Houston Astros star Wade Miller gave up three runs in six innings and Iowa went on to a 6-3 Pacific Coast League loss to Round Rock.

Miller left with the score tied 3-3, but Round Rock broke through with three eighth-inning runs.

"He did a nice job keeping us in it," Quade said of Miller. "He's battling back to get somewhere near to where he was."

Miller, who had shoulder surgery last September, went 45-25 for the Astros from 2001-03.

He topped out in the mid-80s with his fastball Wednesday, giving up seven hits and fanning seven.

Think he'd take a spring training invitation? Anything more than the guaranteed minimum would probably be a waste on the guy.

I must say I love what you do here with the updates on all the games. I don't have the time to watch gamecasts all the time, nor the patience so threads like this are really helpful for catching the highlights then looking at the boxscores in a condensed form later on.

Thanks a lot!

I don't. I was so much happier when I was ignorant about the minors and what really happens with the Cubs. Calgon...take me away!

You can blame it on T2E; he's the one that got us in to this madness many years ago!

Yeah, this forum and its premiere posters (Craisin, O_O, texascub, craig, kctigers, serena, JonM, Flames, and a few more) are easily the best, most informative part of NSBB. kudos to you folks.

Yeah, I blame T2E, raw, UK and mlpeel.
Yeah, take the easy way out and blame someone who isn't here anymore and can't defend himself. [-X
