Why not let Guz bunt Izturis over for Ramirez?

It would lower the chance of scoring a run this inning.

Compared to letting Z hit?

The OBP of a batter has to be pretty low to justify bunting a runner from first to second with no outs. With one out, the OBP threshold is even lower.

Z's OBP is pretty bad this year, but it's a small sample size. I think letting Z hit there was the right call, results notwithstanding.

And Z knows this park, dude.

At this point the Cubs are out of both bullpen arms and guys off the bench, I wonder if Dusty has given up? If the game isn't over soon, we'll be up a creek without a paddle. Edited by texascub

.233 OBP in ~325 career PA's.

how low? it's Z, but his career OBP is still .240 going into this year. the guy following is arguably your best hitter. get the guy to second and take a chance of Aram knocking him in there.

For the record, the best thing to do in that situation is do the thing that gets the bat in Ramirez's hands with a chance to swing.

Probably not the best statistical option, but that's what I would do.

So who pitches after Dempster? Given that Guzman is a starter and is stretched out, I think you have to let him sac there and keep him pitching until he runs out of gas.

Then again, I've lost track of how long ago he pitched.

Len and Bob are saying Hill likely, with someone like Wade Miller called up to start tomorrow...

Hill is already in the pen.

Okay. Makes sense.

I wish I could watch the game, but the stupid hotel doesn't carry it. :(

Is it wrong that I half hope this game keeps on going for like 20 innings?

Who pitches for that long? We'd have to run everyone but Z out there to do it.

To answer your question, Guzman started on Saturday.

If Hill is available, he might be able to go that long.
