FWIW; Arizona won their marathon game in the 18th, also. 2-1.

I wonder when was the last time, MLB had two games go 18 innings in the same night? :-k

The answer is on MLB.com's front page in the automatic scroll-thru - Never. It's an MLB first.

Both are also the two longest games played in their respective ballparks (same source)

Man, if you ever have the time, read this thread on a Houston sports message board.

If you thought we were down about our team, just wait until you read the posts by these guys! Some of their sarcasm, masochism, and tongue-in-cheek riticism is absolutely hilarious. It's kinda like the humor in these game threads, but multiplied by ten. Oh man, I almost woke up everybody in the house laughing at those posts.

Take for example this quote about Morgon Ensberg:

How appopriate--end the game looking at this piece of crap stance.

HAHAHAHA.

They say that at the end that after last night's game Garner has pulled Lidge from the closer role and will go with 'closer by committee.'

Wow.

There's a lot of ignorance on that message board.

So Ensberg is having a horrible, wretched year, but his WARP is exactly the same (3.9) as Aramis Ramirez, and he's had fewer at-bats.

So the Astros problem is clutch hitting with RISP? That sounds like something Jim Hendry would say.

So the Astros need to play more small ball? Bunt more? Hit more sacrifice flies?

It seems they haven't discovered OBP yet, either.

Are public schools failing in Houston?

The reaction of the Astros fans is very understandible. For them, the 2005 season was similar to the 2003 season for the Cubs fans.

Once a team has been to the "big dance", it's hard to accept not even being invited.

The Astros had that surge last year, and have collapsed this year. Sound familiar? Are Dusty and Phil related by any chance?

I know I shouldn't judge all Houston fans by one message board, but they really don't get it.

Yeah, they're disappointed that the team won't make the playoffs, but they really need to learn about what makes a baseball team good.

The squeeze play worked out nicely for them!

And there were several posts on the message board calling for Houston to try the squeeze again later in the game.

It's a lot easier to sit back and objectively comment on something when you have no stake in it. They are the ones that are emotionally attached to the Astros, so I would cut them some slack. We are probably the same to them.

The Astros have been playing above their heads ever since Beltran left for free agency imo. Berkman is good, but he can't carry the team alone.
