Why not let Guz bunt Izturis over for Ramirez?

It would lower the chance of scoring a run this inning.

Compared to letting Z hit?

The OBP of a batter has to be pretty low to justify bunting a runner from first to second with no outs. With one out, the OBP threshold is even lower.

Z's OBP is pretty bad this year, but it's a small sample size. I think letting Z hit there was the right call, results notwithstanding.

And Z knows this park, dude.

.233 OBP in ~325 career PA's.

Thanks.

According to the James Click series on sac bunts, if a guy has a line greater than .199/.224/.174, he should swing away to maximize the chances of scoring 1 run with a runner on first and one out.

Calling for Guz to sac bunt wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world, but it wasn't a no-brainer.

So who pitches after Dempster? Given that Guzman is a starter and is stretched out, I think you have to let him sac there and keep him pitching until he runs out of gas.

Then again, I've lost track of how long ago he pitched.

To answer your question, Guzman started on Saturday.

thx

This game better end soon or I am going to "grow up" a little bit tonight as it will be the first time I have to turn off a sports event while its still going on so I can get enough sleep to be alive at work tomorrow.

I thought I could make it until age 30

Hah.

I'm older than that, and I have a lunch meeting with the president of my institution tomorrow, but I'm still watching.

This game might just go 20 innings if the ump's strike zone remains that huge.

I didn't mind the zone until a couple innings ago when Guz started getting squeezed a little while the Astros zone got a little generous.
