anyone know why he isn't in the lineup today for Philadelphia?

his streak is still going, right?

No, the streak ended last night. So they gave him the day off to rest today.

well, that settles that.

Nor does a game where he gets walked every time?

A game w/ no offical AB's unless one of the PA's was a Sac Fly

So he could get a sac fly and 4 walks and have his streak ended?

He looked real good in UCLA blue (and gold...of course the only pics I have are in black and white). :)

I think so.

Here's the official rule from mlb.com:

Consecutive-Game Hitting Streaks: A consecutive-game hitting streak shall not be terminated if all the player's plate appearances (one or more) results in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt. The streak shall terminate if the player has a sacrifice fly and no hit. The player's individual consecutive-game hitting streak shall be determined by the consecutive games in which the player appears and is not determined by his club's games.
So a sacrifice bunt will not count against a streak, but a sacrifice fly will.

When it comes to nuanced, confusing, detailed, and typically arbitrary rules, baseball beats all other sports by miles.

As it should be. A swing is a swing, and there is truly no way to concede that a player was swinging with the intention of flying out. A bunt is a very different story. It's all a question of proven intent.

he would look pretty good in cubby blue, hitting 2nd!

That would be amazing. I would love it.

Don't hold your breath... Howard, Utley and Hamels are the three untouchables on that club. Maybe Brett Myers too, but it's hard to know because of his off-the-field troubles.

I agree. Utley and Howard ain't going nowhere. If any GM calls up the Phillies and asks about them, they'll get laughed at and a Monty Python and the Holy Grail-type scolding.

Excatly. That's what I was thinking. A sac fly just means a runner is on 3rd w/ less than 2 outs and the flyout was deep enough to advance him.
