He pitched against the Cubs in 02 in Wrigley.

He also tossed a complete game in 03.

Edit: you may mean this year, though...

Any shot Veal makes one or two starts for West Tenn if he keeps up his performance in Daytona?

I could see that, a la Gallagher and Patterson last season. The playoff picture really muddles the situation a bit - all the minor league teams have a chance to clinch and the Cubs do like to get their players playoff/winning experience.

Veal still needs to cut down on his walks.

Promotions are often impacted by playoff situations. The Cubs like to have their farm teams get into the playoffs, and if possible have their better prospects participate in minor league playoffs. If Daytona is in anyways, that would raise Veal's shot at staying and trying to win playoffs with the guys he's been playiing with. But if Daytona is out, and Wtenn is likely to be in, that owuld increase the likelihood that he'd get promoted.

IMO.

Yes of course. I meant as a "Cub"

According to Cubs.com, the Cubs plan on sending two class A players to the Hawaiian League this year.

West Tenn up 3-0 in the 4th. Sing with a 2-run homer.

Daytona scores 2 in the 2nd and 4 in the 3rd to take a 6-0 lead. The Don has allowed just 1 hit through 4. Harvey has walked twice.

Peoria up 1-0 in the 4th.

Veal with just 2 singles allowed through 5. He has struck out 5 with a 6-3 GO-FO and added a pickoff.

Guzman has struck out 4 with no walks and 3 singles through 3. Augie just hit his 2nd HR of the season for the first run of the game.

Wade Miller's final line: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K

Am I seeing things on milb.com or is Dylan Johnston pitching for Peoria?

You saw correct, but they just replaced his name with Joel Santo.

Wow, Jim Essian's son is on the Lakeland Tigers.

Is it too early to think about Veal moving up to West Tenn since he has only had a couple of months in Daytona?

I have no problem either way, but if the Cubs promote him, I'd want him to only have a couple starts at West Tenn. Again, I think it comes down to the playoff situation (if the minor league seasons ended today, Daytona would be in and West Tenn would be out of the playoffs).

I think Billy Petrick would be a perfect candidate for that since he missed a lot of time this season.

Look what Minnesota did with Matt Garza, although Garza has plus command.

And Garza was/is more advanced because of the longer college career.

Apparently Veal's pitch count is so good that he might have a chance at a CG.

Lines in progress:

Guzman - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB (7-pitch walk), 4 K, 3-8 GO-FO, 74-47

Veal - 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 6-5 GO-FO

Veal's ERA is down to 1.04.

In the 7th, Veal gets a leadoff K, loses the next hitter to a walk after getting ahead 1-2 and then gives up a single. Runners at the corners and a mound visit for Donnie. Hunton gets up in the Daytona pen.
