Iowa up 6-2 in the 5th.

Angel flew into Des Moines from Vegas and is pitching tonight in Iowa. I don't see why he couldn't have flown to Chicago for a game tomorrow. It's not like he's going to flap his arms and fly out there on his own, risking another forearm injury or something.

You jinxed him!

Though with the rainout in Chicago I wouldn't be shocked if he's called up for the pen or something.

Peoria won 6-2. Taylor pitched a complete game, as he gave up 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, walked none, and struck out 6. Chirinos was 3/4 with a single, a double, and a triple. He had 3 RBI's, and scored 2 runs. Valdez also had 3 hits. Ryne Malone went 2/5 with 1 run scored. Ryan Norwood, Yusuf, and Mark Reed all went 1/4. Norwood had a walk, and Reed had 2 RBI's. Lilly went 1/3 with a BB, and Davy Gregg went 1/5.

Iowa won 7-3. Guzman only went the 1st inning (still don't know what happened), and gave up 2 hits and struck out 1. Chavez had a good outing as he got the win. He went 5 innings giving up 2 hits, 2 ER's, walked 4, and struck out 1. Brandon Emanuel pitched the 7th and 8th, and only allowed 1 hit while striking out 1. Aardsma pitched the 9th and gave up 2 hits, 1 ER, and struck out 1. Buck Coats was 3/4 with his 6th HR of the season, and a double. He had 2 RBI's as well. Felix was 2/3 with a double, a BB, and a run scored. Fontenot went 2/3 with two doubles, 1 RBI, 1 BB, and 3 runs scored. Montanez was 2/4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Dang. Sounds like I did pretty darn good. I'm very impressed that I didn't walk anyone.

What do you mean it sounds like; have you already forgotten how you performed so quickly?

I don't even remember going up to Peoria and pitching. I remember sitting around at home playing a game of Scrabble.

Jaxx lose 6-4 :( Mathes went 7, allowing 8 hits, 3 ER's, 2 BB's, and struck out 3. Brownlie sucked as usual, going 2/3's of an inning, giving up 2 hits, 3 ER's, and walking 1. Vasquez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 2 hits, and walking 1, but didn't allow a run. Holdzkom pitched the 9th and allowed 2 hits, but no runs. Jake Fox had a nice night going 2/4 with a double, a homer, 3 RBI's, a walk, and a run scored. Chris Walker went 3/5 and was just a homer shy of the cycle. EPatt was 1/4 with an RBI, a BB, and his 37th SB of the season. Lewis was 2/5 with a run scored and a stolen base. Scott Moore and Brandon Sing both singled.

Mesa down 7-2 in the 4th.

Great to see the 19-year-old Scott Taylor go the distance. He and Mitch Atkins, who is 20, make a nice pair of pitching prospects in Peoria.

And that, folks, is what you call alliteration.

Also great to see Tim's favorite catching prospect, Jake Fox, break out of his AA slump. He's got a 4-game hitting streak and over his last 3 games he is batting .455 (5-for-11) with 3 runs scored, a double, 2 HRs, 7 RBI, a walk and strikeout. We knew you had it in ya, Jake! Keep it up...

Mesa scored 4 in the 9th, but lost 8-6. Kyle Holden took the loss as he didn't even make it out of the 1st inning. He gave up 1 hit, 5 walks, 5 ER's, and struck out 1 in 2/3's of an inning. Renshaw pitched 3 1/3, allowing 4 hits, 2 ER's, 0 BB's, and struck out 2. Ceda made his first apperance and did a good job...2 innings, 1 hit, 0 ER's, 1 BB, 4 K's. Greibal Cuevas novas pitched the final 2 innings and allowed 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 1 BB, and struck out 4.

Jeremy Williams went 2/5 with a double, a triple, 2 RBI's, and scored a run. Vanderhook went 3/5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Marwin Gonzalez went 2/5 with an RBI. Clifford Andersen went 2/4 with a run scored. Luther Murphy and Wilson Inoa both added singles.

Nashville lost 7-0...Iowa is now just 1.5 out of first :)

It's time to really watch Pie. It seems he's heating up a bit lately. I think its very important for him to be strong until the rest of the year. The stronger he is, the less likely it is that Hendry resigns Pierre.

He's going to re-sign Pierre. He has to because Pie is not ready. Give him another year or two in the minors. In all honesty I would've liked another year in AA this year. Pierre has been very good the last two months of the season. Sometimes it takes a player a while to get used to Wrigley and the day games. I think Pierre was just trying to do everything to prove himself and he just needed to relax and play the game. I'm all for Pierre for another year or two...

Damn, all the recap on Iowas game says this about Guzman:

Wilton Chavez ( 4-2) notched the win for the Cubs, allowing two runs in five innings in relief of Angel Guzman, who left after just one inning.

The Des Moines Register didn't even have an article about the game last night and the only other article I could find made it seem like going one inning was normal.

I think Pierre just isn't good, and his numbers prove it, both this year and career. I'm completely against him returning, but I think Pie needs more time as well. And he should just stop trying to steal. Do it like once a month and maybe catch the other team off guard.

Jose Ceda debuted down in Mesa. He pitched two scoreless, struck out four, walked one, and gave up only one basehit.

Nice.

Here's some stuff on Ceda from ITI:

http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/30/308906.jpg

“We have the same info as everyone else,” one Cubs minor league official said after the trade. “He’s a young kid with a great arm and a great body.”

One Padres official who saw the 6’4”, 207-lb Ceda in action with the team this season was San Diego Director of International Scouting, Randy Smith.

“Jose Ceda is a guy we signed basically in a rain storm throwing in the Dominican inside the batting cage,” Smith told MadFriars.com, the Padres’ equivalent to Inside The Ivy on the Scout.com network. “Last year, he hit 99 a few times. It doesn’t necessarily mean success, but it sure is a nice way to start.”

............

“He throws pretty well,” said Padres minor league catcher Clint Naylor, a teammate of Ceda’s on the Padres’ rookie league club. “He has a bit of sting. He is quite good. He has the best fastball - it is pretty straight but 98."

len and bob say guzman was taken out in case the cubs needed him. could the cubs have handled this entire situation any worse?

he's too far away in las vegas to make it to chicago to start thursday, but he's not too far away to start in des moines on wednesday. and then he pitches one inning wednesday in case he needs to pitch soon for chicago...even though by warming up and pitching an inning, he probably won't be able to throw again until saturday (?) at the earliest. so that one inning was pretty pointless. wow.
