I'd like to see what Walker gets ranked at the end of the year before I make up my mind about the trade. If he gets an "A" ranking, I wish we would have held on and offered Arby. If he gets a "B" ranking, I'm happy enough with the deal.

I had a waiver deal in my fantasy league where i was dropping walker. I cancelled it and chose to drop another player. I think walker will be better given playingtime.

Brutal trade.

Shove it Hendry, and shove it Cubs.

What a joke. Hendry couldn't give this guy away for the last year, and you're griping about who he got in return? I'm just happy he's gone and Dusty will play Theriot! (Or at least, he [expletive] better...)

Then why in the hell won't you keep him?

What's so wrong with Walker anyways? He bats almost 300 and we're going to play Perez at 2nd.

Give me a break.

No wonder why we're going to lose ninety games this year.

He'll probably sharing 3b with Bellhorn unless the Padres get another 3b. Also, the occasional start at 2b for Barfield, I'm assuming.

Good luck, Todd.

I'm not surprised that we didn't get anything for him. Walker had zero trade value for whatever reason.

Eh, who knows. i'll see how they use him. I'm not going anywhere this year anyways. Its a dynasty league.

Dear God, why is Cub Management so stupid?

(walks away from computer and heads toward local bar, slams 3 captains, heads to next bar, repeat repeat repeat)

You're right. They should have let him walk away a free agent with zero returns, because that is so much more brilliant.

Hendry did the right thing. He got some value out of what would be no value. Let a kid play 2B for the rest of the year and see what's happening.

I've seen conflicting reports on his size. MiLB.com says 6'4'' 207 while message board post (a copied and pasted Peoria Padres roster) says 6'4'' 240. I'd imagine 207 is correct.

He's a righty, by the way.

Doesn't seem like a bad trade. Walker wasn't going to be back with the team without his power. The Padres need some OBP. Hopefully he does well over there. I'll miss him. He did a pretty nice job in chicago for not much money.

As much as we like him, I think this was the market for Todd Walker.

Exactly. Why are people continuously thinking that a guy the Cubs signed for cheap and had no interest from teams 2 years ago, had no interest this offseason when the Cubs were knowingly trying to get rid of him, and has had a down power year was gonna bring back something of substance?

Same with the Williamson deal.

Hard to disagree, especially on the Williams deal.

Have to agree here, but there is something to be said about how they once again negatively affected a guy's trading volume by talking so much about replacing him for a year. For every "we'll do what Greg wants" type of move, they crap on another player, which would negate any value in trying to become a destination for free agents. Not to mention, 3.75 years into his tenure and Baker hasn't brought in a single good free agent, despite that being one of his supposed assets. Perhaps all the dumping on guys they want to trade has hurt the team's ability to sign decent players.

I'll say this. Hendry BETTER make Dusty play Fotenot, Theroit, or heck, even Patterson MOST of the rest of the year. Otherwise Dusty will soon find out how many games you can loose when you have Neifi EVERY DAY. . . . . . .. . (ofcourse he won't ever actually figure it out). .

...so I assume we are hoping that Ceda could become a valuable middle reliever in the year 2012? Edited by fiver

Well then, isn't it time to think about and make trades for the future.

Walker in the future equals nothing. Ceda will likely equal nothing as well, but might equal something. So Hendry trades nothing for a possible something and you throw a fit.

Interesting.

I don't think there's anyway he's an "A". He may even be a borderline "B". IIRC, he was a Class "C" FA after the 2004 season.

I've been prepared for this all year. In fact, I expected it prior to the season beginning. But for the life of me, if Neifi is now the everyday 2B, or Hendry/Baker even SAY he's done a good enough job to be an everyday 2B, I'm going to lose it.

And if Neifi is the opening day starting 2B next year, I swear I'm done with the Cubs until both of these cowns (Hendry and Baker) are run out of the organization.

We've complained about their overvaluation of neifi, we've even been chastised by those who think we're making too much of Neifi's presence on the team. But every hypothetical doomsday scenario we've been warning about concerning Neifi for over a year is looking more and more realistic with each passing moronic move Hendry makes.

So, again, it's not that Walker was traded, or that they don't see him as the future 2B for the team that's got me- I like the production he gave us, but am not such a fan of his that I think he's god's gift to the game. It's really my sinking suspicion that Neifi is their guy going forward beyond this year that's getting to me.

Because he was going to walk away at the end of the year for nothing. This kid sounds like he could have some nice upside and as others have said is probably market value for Walker.

I'm glad to see Hendry go this route rather than trade him for some toolsy 24-year old SS who has never produced.

Well, Walker is still probably going to be better than any other 2B they'll have the next couple years. But the Cubs weren't going to bring him back anyway.

I wonder if that's due to playing time. His rate numbers certainly rank well with 2b-men. And Elias doesn't consider defense when doing the rankings.

a) I'm not referring to this deal ONLY, but more to the idea that they (the Cubs) completely mis-used Walker.

b) F-the coaches kid @ 2nd base. you KNOW Neifi will be playing that position.
