I'm not a huge fan of metal in general, but I still really like Metallica. Sometimes the quality of their songwriting gets overlooked, because you often can't hear it for the distortion. Plus, they are clearly much more musically important than the Police. And nowhere near as obnoxious (don't get me wrong - I really like the Police. But they definitely have the capability to get on your nerves). I voted Metallica.

Metallica is very over-rated.

Not as much as the Beatles or Led Zeppelin... I don't know what your thoughts are, I'm just putting it out there.

You must be joking.

I don't find the Beatles to have much talent, they're sound is too simple. Yeah, I like them, but they're not as great as everybody likes to say. And Zeppelin, I just flat out hate them.

If Cliff Burton-era Metallica can be called over-rated, than so can the Beatles and Zeppelin. I'll agree 90's and later Metallica is nothing special, but the first Metallica 3 records are as much masterpieces as any Zep or Beatles recordings.

Uhh, sorry, but no. Nothing Metallica has ever done can compare to Revolver or Rubber Soul in the "masterpiece" category. For that matter, nothing they've done can compare to Sgt. Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road...

well if you need to be picky, I'd say that Master of Puppets is the best heavy metal record ever made. If you don't want to put it up with beatles stuff, fine, but it's definitely one of the best records ever made

Best heavy metal recod, sure. One of those Beatle albums would simply be the best rock/pop album ever.

I'm on your side Derwood, but ...And Justice For All was absolutely unbelievable musically. 9 songs and 63 minutes of pure awesomeness. I understand the argument that they went too far with AJFA but I absolutely love that album. IMO opinion it's not significantly better than Master of Puppets and I will gladly listen to either any day, but I think AJFA is a bit better.

This doesn't bode well for the future of Metallica in this tourney. If they are barely beating The Police there is no way they take out a #1 seed. I'm voting for them all the way, but I don't think it's going to happen.

...and justice would be closer in my eyes if the album didn't sound like crap. the songs are superb, but it's a bad recording. the lack of (or really turned down) bass hurts it also.

This just makes me laugh. Beatles overrated? no, but you can at least make an argument, given that they're widely regarded as the best band ever. But they don't have much talent? I cannot possibly think of a definition of "talent" that would make that statement true.

Yeah what bass. I thought they did it to be jerks to Newsted. I know it pissed him off you could barely hear it.

And yes.....Masters of Puppets is a MASTERPIECE.

What in the WORLD are you talking about??? Too simple compared to what? A Wagner opera?? I've heard many a criticism of the fab-four but never "too simple". They did more with what they had to work with in studio than any other band in history. In fact, many of the modern advancements that are in use now to make rock music were brought about because of the Beatles dickering around in Abbey Road: Distortion, sampling, double-tracking of voices, using 8 tracks, using an orchestra with rock music, blending eastern indian music with rock music, and using tape loops, among other things.

You seriously must only think of them as smiling 19 and 20 year olds singing "She Loves You" or "I Want To Hold Your Hand".

Try this on for size and see if you take back "too simple" from your characterization of Beatles music.

For some reason I preffered "Ride the Lighting" over both Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All.
