Regardless of who is to blame, let's hope Derrek sits out the rest of the year and gets ready for 2007.

And if there's anything permanently wrong with him...when we have 4 yrs and some 45 million left to pay...with an NTC...

...I mean...

Apparently Hendry has been handing out NTCs like candy according to player interviews.

WTG HENDRY!!! The chances of him getting canned are fairly slim -- FOR NOW -- but it sure was thoughtful of him to make sure that the mess he'll leave behind is all-the-more-difficult to clean up.

I mentioned in another thread recently that I agree with John Schuerholz and Stan Kasten. They refuse to negotiate NTCs. The only NTCs they have are the ones that are already in contracts they receive via trade.

Good news in today's UTK:

Derrek Lee didn’t just take batting practice on Monday, he was hitting the ball out of the park. He wasn’t just taking cuts, he was taking some hacks...Lee had no problems, describing the difference between this comeback and the last one as "night and day." He had no problems before, during, or after the session, and he was reporting no pain on Tuesday. Given continued progress, Lee should be back when rosters expand or sooner; he’d like sooner.

That's excellent to hear. I miss Dlee...

According to cubs.com, Lee may be activated for tonight's game. Personally I think it would make more sense to wait just a few more days until rosters expand so they don't have to make a roster move, but that's just me.

What if activating him means Rusch is sent packing when waiting until the 1st could mean he's still with us for another season?

Buck Coats serves no purpose on this team. There's no reason to avoid sending him back down. Likewise, the Mabry/Nevin combo could be traded.

Good point; I hadn't thought of that. [/wishful thinking]

True; I'd forgotten that Coats was even on the team.

First: This is Chicago, and what happens when it gets cold, they could always turn to Buck Coats to keep them warm. (raises shield for incoming raspberries)

Second: Goony, do you ACTUALLY think Mabry and/or Nevin will be dealt?
