He shows up 3 games out of 90 so now he decides to call out the rest of the team. Its a shame no one will tell him to shut the ...........

I'd wish there was someone else on my team who could mash 4 massive homers in RF-freakin'-K if I just did it myself, too. I don't see it as a shot at anyone...he's just being honest and trying to be a little funny.

I was at both games, and none of them was in doubt for a second. For at least 2 of them Soriano just looked up and didn't even bother.

So his two game hot streak makes up for his poor play so much that he can say whatever he wants?

Where did I say anything even remotely close to that?

I said it's a guy trying to sound honest and funny...who cares if he said he wishes there were more guys on his team smashing the ball? Who WOULDN'T want that? He didn't single anyone out, so whose feelings are going to be hurt?

The way we talk about this team, they're never going to win anything with the amount of crying and sulking in the corners they must be doing.

I guess he just wasn't very good at being funny.

That comment could have been made in a bad way. I'm not saying thats what it was. Other than one other quote from a couple weeks ago I have no reason to believe it was made in that tone. I will however keep track, and that right there is two times. After 4 or 5 or 6 do you start to think it happens too much to be that he is just being taken out of context. It might not get to that, I hope it doesn't. At this point I'm not taking either side, both should be held in consideration because its too early to say for sure that its one way or the other.

Oh and the "remotely close to part" to was in reference to the fact that you only used the past two games ehre he hit 4 homers in support of his strong play. He's done poorly the rest of the season. I'm sure thats not how you meant it, my bad.

I wasn't using it to support anything. I was just syaing I was there and I was impressed with the home runs.

Who is he "calling out?"

Posted
Wow...some people just don't get it. Aramis is a good ballplayer. You weren't at the interview so you don't know what questions were asked. Sure those quotes make him appear conceited, but again, if you show the questions that were possibly asked (as previous posters have) it seems like a normal interview. Besides, even if he was conceited, he's still one of the best hitters we have on this team. So what that he couldn't lead this team by himself when Lee was injured. There isn't one player in this league that could lead this team. This is a non-issue. Of course though the Cubs will turn it into a problem, blow it way out of proportion, diminish all of Ramirez's value, and then trade him to the Orioles.

Who is he "calling out?"

Possibly he meant to call out no one. Taken alone it seems like hes calling out the whole damn team.

Lets just hope the team knows who he is actually calling or not calling out here.

Oh yeah...and you can say all you want about Ramirez's poor start, but he's going to finish the year with an OPS around .850, 30+ HR, and 100 RBIs for a team that'll finish 30+ games below .500. I think we have bigger problems than Aramis underperforming for a couple months.

Don't believe everything you read in newspapers.

Thats the second time he's had a quote like that. I'm not ready to run him out of town, but I'm gonna have my eye on him.

I don't buy that he's just frustrated. I didn't hear Z say... "I've pitched great the past few months and my offense on those days are the only reason we won." He very well could have too, because its true. Instead he's just said stuff like -We gotta catch the wild card. I haven't heard Barrett say hes pissed because hes doing great and everyone sucks.

Aramis needs to learn to speak to the media. You just don't do that.

That's funny. I didn't hear Aramis say anything like that either.

I don't, thank you. I realize they are out to sell papers first and tell the truth second. I just think its worth noting and not completely ignoring. And like I said, hopefully all the teammates are on the same page with his quotes and know what hes feeling.

I would love Aramis to not be so honest or try to be funny if that was really the case. If he just sticks to the "company line" this whole thing would REALLY be a non issue. He shouldn't give reporters anything to work with. As long as they won't be completely honest, you don't have to be completely honest.

Your right, he chose to just highliht two good days rather than two good months.

yah, you really think hes getting run out of town??

The dude just hit three HRs in two days (in games in which the Cubs lost) and somehow he is a problem.

you mean 5 hrs in three games.... 2 of which they lost

people need to realize that players don't stand on a box and start blabbing. they respond to questions. that's what TT was trying to say. let me try to plug a couple in and maybe recontextualize.

.......

thanks Aramis. I'll go cut those quotes up in my article now to make you look like you're bad seed.

I do realize this.. thats why I asked what I asked

aramis said nothing that his teamates wouldnt agree with
the would agree with it.. yet only a few of them would acutally say it publiclly

Wow, this coming from a guy who was supposed to carry us after Lee broke his wrist. Geez. Shut up, but I still want him.
The key there is he was SUPPOSED TO.. did he no.. this is why he is "unhappy" and "being pushed out of town".

dude...... he is a 25+ homer / 100 rbi guy... you need to realize that.

oh ya, and i dont think he called anyone out. I think maybe in a way he was calling out the media for making him look bad when he isnt bad at all.

you said it perfectly man :)

Ramirez has been hitting the ball well for quite a while now. It's not like he just woke up, as some have suggested.

People who are jumping on the fact that ARam is NOW starting to hit like we know he can, needs to get off their high horse and blame the WHOLE FRIGGIN' TEAM, not just ARam.

Guys this thread was credited because somebody was nitpicking just to rant. That is a product of a BAD team, in a BAD SEASON. In this kind of season, fans/media are going to nitpick at everything that goes wrong. There WAS NOTHING wrong with what ARam said, and I doubt his teammates felt insulted. If they did, maybe they should had played better, when they have the chance.

The way this team has been playing this year, I would find it hard to believe a hot Aram for the 2 months Lee was out would have made a difference with the overall standings or record of this trainwreck.

I for one will congratulate Aram on an excellent defensive improvement, which was without Lee saving him from many errors, and give him a pass on his poor offense. For all I know he was working so hard on defense his offense took a hit.

I will now return to normal lurking position.

Just curious - to those of you assuming his comments were taken out of context, how come you do not assume the same thing about Baker's comments? Not trying to cause a problem; I really want to know how you are differentiating the two.

Most of Dusty's comments are horrible analogies that sound laughable in or out of context.

In addition, Dusty's comments are endemic of his actions when they are interpreted poorly. People may assume the worst with what Dusty says, but it's usually backed up by what he does, or another comment he's made. That said, he does get taken out of context at times, and I've pointed that out in a couple occasions, although I admit I've readily hammered him for a multitude of quotes in the past.

So the players on this team who suck day in and day out should never have to be called on it?

Come on.

I'm glad ARam made those comments. Players who are stinking it up know it, and ought to own up to it rather than cry about somebody pointing out the obvious.

Who's going to light a fire under these guys then? It sure isn't going to be Dusty, I can guaran-damn-tee that.

bad team, bad season yes... but sorry.. the whole team doesnt need to be ripped on. Hank White did pretty well for those 13 games Barrett was out during the Lee injury... Jones and Walker also for the most part did their part.... Everyone else should be ripped on tho.

If you call those comments "ripping" on people, then you would have everyone on the team [expletive]-foot around every issue. I just don't agree with that.

The comments were honest but light. Nobody was called out. Nobody was ripped-on, IMO.

I just wonder if Ramirez sucking while Lee was out had anything to do with the fact any pitcher in his right mind would not give him anything to hit? If Pujols didn't have hitters around him to protect him he wouldn't be hitting like he does either.

not sure what world you are living in Soul.

when I first began work at my former employer, we did all these team exercises about how we need to trust one another and how we should feel free to call each other out when we feel someone is not living up to their responsabilities and not being accountable for mistakes.

this worked fine for about 8 months, when I didn't know enough about my job or organization to ever say anything. then I began to understand what the priorities were and how resources were best used and what the objectives of the office should be and what the best way to achieve said objectives are.

I did what I was told to do when I began, called people out on avoiding responsabilities and accountability for about 8 months. they fired me last Friday.

no matter how much people say they respect "telling it how it is," coworkers and bosses don't like being told they are screwing up. it does nothing but lead to extreme volitility in all but the most rare of circumstances. I don't think calling people out is what Aram did here, but I also don't think calling people out is generally a productive thing to do.
