I'm guessing Hill will be up in a few days to replace one of Aardsma/Wuertz but Dusty needs 2 relievers today to protect the bullpen from foul balls since the pen was taxed the last 2 days.

Not if Marmol goes to the DL.

Doesn't everytime that the Cubs need a new SP with 4 other starters going before the next turn needed they bring up a AAA guy for those 4 days and then send him down for the new starter? Or are we to the point that we just assume the stupid move is going to be made (oh yeah i think that point was 2+ years ago :x).

I still have my money on Rusch making Marshalls start.

Rusch was warming up in the bullpen during today's game. That tells me that unless Marmol is also injured, they have no plans on Rusch being in the starting rotation.

With Marshall's injury and the Saturday night trade of reliever Scott Williamson to the San Diego Padres, the Cubs had two openings. They don't need another starter until Thursday against St. Louis and will likely call up left-hander Rich Hill from Iowa for that game.

Told of Hill's numbers, Cubs manager Dusty Baker said: "Great. Bring it here."

"The way our bullpen has been taxed the last few days, we needed some bullpen help," Baker said. "At the end of that period of time, we'll make a decision. It was ironic that Hill's turn was on the same day as Marshall's."

Sounds like pretty clear signals that Hill is coming up next week to start in place of Marshall.

(BTW Dusty, it was coincidental that Hill's turn was on the same day as Marshall's, not ironic)

Receptionist: How do you write women so well?

Melvin: Easy. I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.

Although yours worked just fine also.

Those numbers don't mean a lot to Cubs manager Dusty Baker, considering Hill went 0-4 with a 9.31 ERA with the Cubs.

''You have to come here and do it,'' Baker said. ''No more whys or how-comes or explanations. Do it. I'd be the happiest man in the world.''

funny...the failure of guys like rusch, perez, pierre, maddux, etc to "do it" doesn't seem to bother baker that much. i just love how he acts so fed up with how these kids are just dragging the team down.

I am really happy to wrong about this. I really hope that Hill is allowed to start the rest of the season. Lets take an extended look at him. If he shows no signs of getting it together at the ML level than at least we would know.
