How did they part ways....on good or bad terms?

I don't think there was any bad blood at all. The Twins just weren't going to pay his price. With Stewart, Hunter, Ford, and Kubel they believed he was expendable. With their recent injuries, though Jones may make some sense for them.

Didn't he get a good ovation when we went to the Metrodome?

I think he is well liked there - I don't really get how they think they are in the race but I would hate to face Johan and Francisco is a short playoff series.

I'm feeling the love here....Mr. Hendry, get those Twins on the phone!

If I recall correctly, he was very popular there. Didn't we have a post here from someone who was also a Twins fan railing on us for dissing the signing that claimed he was the "heart and soul" of the Twins?

My feeling is that Hendry won't trade Jones because he wants 2 more years of what we already have. The only way Jones is traded is if he becomes a malcontent and forces the issue.

Yeah....selling high would really suck and that's not the Cubs way. I'll wait for Hendry to trash him in the press before he trades him.

Jones is a decent player who I think should be in left. The Cubs just need a big banger in left or right or another postion if they can find one. If Jones is moved I would like some very good prospects for him.

If he stays on the Cubs, I would try him in CF. Sadly, I think you are correct that Hendry won't trade him though he should. He will not be part of the next Cub's playoff team and that should be the only criteria.

Maybe he likes the fans better there?

First: Trading Jones would mean Hendry made a mistake in signing Jones to a three yr deal. And Hendry hasn't been known as being upfront abou making a mistake. In fact, I consider him a Cloak-n-dagger type GM, never really trusting what he says.

Second: For the Twins to be interested in Jones, the Cubs would HAVE to eat some contract. Perhaps all of 2007 and say half of 2008. And if the Cubs were to do that, I would expect to recieved a Scott Baker, or a Boof Bonser in return.

IMO, Jacques ain't going anywhere.

I have no problem with him being an CF unless that forces Perez to lead off or bat second. That's the thing with the Cubs...they always kind of do things right and end up screwing the whole thing up.

If the Twins have soured on Scott Baker, I'll gladly take him in exchange for Jones. I'd pay some of Jones' salary to get Slowey.

Bizzaro Baker? Would this cause the Cubs to be thrown off balance?

Maybe he'd confuse Dusty into being his son. Then he'd start regularly, no matter how bad he struggles.

Twins fans said he's a good guy, but they were glad he was gone. I hope we get rid of him ASAP. Maybe is he is hitting like this at this time next year, we can trade him then??

How come everyone is so quick to trade Jones and think Walker can do no wrong. To me it seems that Jones is a team player, while Walker seems to just care about himself. I really don't care if he bobbles the ball or not last Friday, but to call out Cedeno is very unprofessional. The veteran move would have been to just keep your mouth shut. But no, Todd Walker is a media whore! If it was widely known that the Cubs wanted to trade him last off season, then why wasen't a deal made? Dosen't it seem odd that he has been on SIX teams in TEN years?

In 9 more ABs Jones has a higher BA, more hits, RBIs, more HRs, and strikeouts, but because he has a lower OBP and lower walk total he should be traded the first chance we get?

Did Walker try and blame Ramirez on his second error last night. Did that throw handcuff him too? Everybody else's fault but his.

He actually took full responsibility for it.

"I just didn't catch the ball," Walker said. "I've got 1,000 excuses, but nobody wants to hear them. The bottom line is I didn't catch either ball. I was responsible for the 11 runs in that inning. You can pin this game on me.

"These fans have been so good to me, and then I go out there and do that. It's humiliating. I wouldn't wish that feeling on anybody. You want to crawl in a hole, and you have to go out there for three more innings. That's the toughest thing in the world. I've never had to face anything like that. My teammates don't deserve that. The fans certainly don't."

You are comparing Apples and Oranges. Jones is overpaid and on the books for two more years after this, he is a corner outfielder so should have more HR's and RBI's. Todd Walker at a fraction of the the price is still a much better deal whether you think he is a malcontent or not.

Exactly how many more HR's should he have? And how does the guy get more RBI's without anyone on base?

Trading Jones to Minnesota does not mean Hendry is conceding anything. It just means a team had a need and was {hopefully} willing to overpay to get it. We're in a situation where we can offer to pay a little bit of Jock's money to make him someone Minnesota can afford, and take back a few choice guys who can help us.

If you guys think Minnesota has the talent to spare {no real familiar with their farm system} it's a no brainer. They're 6.5 out of the wild card. Close enough to make a run.

Hell, can we expand on this deal? Minnesota could really use a 5th starter too, think Mad Dog would take up the challenge of kicking these kids butts into the playoffs? What else could we fleece from these guys if we ate all of his '06 salary?
