  1. I'm not trying to pick on you, but why do people think Izturis and Cedeno are just going to disappear?
  2. Wouldn't it be odd if Torre becomes a bench coach for Girardi? I could see that happening somewhere.
  3. Thanks for posting a link. I guess I'm underwhelmed by these deals. Thanks for all the info you have shared with us. I think its pretty cool that someone in the media still posts on a message board and leaves themselves open to critizism. In your opinion, what would you like to have seen the Cubs do? Thanks Ben
  4. This is a good post. I am in line with you. Lets get behind Izturis now and give him an opportunity to suceed before we run him out of town I don't think there's anyone here who wants Izturis to fail. They just realize he isn't that good a player and that Hendry turned down "a package of top-level prospects" for Cesar. Is there anything to that, or is it just a rumor? Het, thats a nice jab. Who is it directed towards?
  5. Its easy. 1) Defense is not our problem. 2) Maddux's contract was up after this year, so his millions come off the book, we could spend it somewhere else. 3) Izturis's contract is in the range of $4-5.5 million for the next two years for production (both defense and offense) that is the same as Cedeno's who would do it at a fraction the cost. edit: 4) we could have had one of Los Angeles's better prospects (who were cheap and have a WHOLE LOT more upside then Izturis) insted by most accounts. How the hell do we know that we could have had one of LAs better prospects? Just because somethings been reported doesen't make it the truth. Hednry's said twice already that the package they were leaning toward taking was for "top notch" prospects (plural), and then he said once Izturis was made available he jumped on the opportunity to land a two-time gold glove winner. Said it twice, in the press conference and with Len and Bob. We don't know for sure who the prospects were, but if they were "top notch", I would have guessed one of them would have been someone we've discussed before (or Will Carrol). Thanks, I wasen't able to watch any of the game due to the fact that our power was out for 5.5 hours! Well, then I guess the rumors were right, but Hendry held out and got what he really wanted.

But even if you don't want to believe we could have had Kemp or Guzman, please address the other 3 points. So if they are such great prospects and be can't misses, then do you really think Hendry would pass them up? I agree with point 1. Point 2. What was Maddux making this year, 9 million? So now there is 4.5 more to spend. Point 3. If we upgrade the outfield are Izturis and Cedeno going to hurt us offesively?
  7. Two big problems with your statement: 1) So if someone states that Hendry made a terrible trad, that's a personal attack against him? No, it's not. People here don't dislike Hendry because of his body type or his somewhat lacking sense of style. He is disliked because he doesn't get it. 2) There are plenty of people who have jobs that they don't deserve or can't do well. The fact that Hendry is a GM doesn't mean he knows how to put a team together better than some of the people who post here. Evidence: many here knew this team would be bad BEFORE the season started, but Hendry was just on TV saying he can't put his finger on what went wrong this year. I mean attacks about his weight and saying he's just eating donuts, Do people actully find that stuff funny? I'm not saying Hendry is doing a good job.

  9. Explain why keeping Maddux was better than trading him for Izturis? I really wish one of the many armchair GMs that are all over this site were GM istead of Hendry. I mean it must make a person more qualified to just read stats and post on a message board all day than to actually talk to other GMs and team officials. I'm sure Hendry's phone has been ringing non-stop the last week with GM proposing deals. And i'm also sick of people bashing Hendry no matter what he does. And to make fun of him by talking about him eating donuts, what are you people 5 years old. I can't believe how childish some people are on here. This is a good site and there are good conversations and arguments here, but way too many personal attacks on people.
  10. Hey don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the Cubs get Tejada. But I think clubs that are still in the race would be willing to give up more. I'd love for the Cubs to get Arod without giving up Ramirez. Ramirez, Rodriquez, Cedeno, Lee, and Barret looks like an awesome infield to me. I just don't want to see the everyday vet players moved for prospects.
  11. Are the Cubs really in a position to make themselves better at this time. How many teams 18 games out of first and 13.5 games out of the wild card really improve at the trade deadline. If they traded for prospects, they won't show it for another year or so. I don't see what good it does to trade proven Major League talent for Minor leaguer prospects that may never turn out to be anything. It's not like th Cubs can't afford to pay them.
  12. How come everyone is so quick to trade Jones and think Walker can do no wrong. To me it seems that Jones is a team player, while Walker seems to just care about himself. I really don't care if he bobbles the ball or not last Friday, but to call out Cedeno is very unprofessional. The veteran move would have been to just keep your mouth shut. But no, Todd Walker is a media whore! If it was widely known that the Cubs wanted to trade him last off season, then why wasen't a deal made? Dosen't it seem odd that he has been on SIX teams in TEN years? In 9 more ABs Jones has a higher BA, more hits, RBIs, more HRs, and strikeouts, but because he has a lower OBP and lower walk total he should be traded the first chance we get? Did Walker try and blame Ramirez on his second error last night. Did that throw handcuff him too? Everybody else's fault but his.
  13. I've got the following dates at Miller Park: Friday, July 7 Field Outfield Box LF Sec 127 Row 26 Sunday, July 9 Terrace Reserved Wednesday, August 9 Field Diamond Box Sec DB 110 Row 4 2 tickets for each game. Now I'm not sure if I can make them all.
