Cedeno swings at the first pitch, again, and lines out to right.

Even when Trachsel was with the Cubs, I never understood why guys would swing at his first pitch. The guy can rarely get his breaking pitch over the plate and can only retire you early in the count if you make contact. I don't think he can strikeout a hitter (non-pitcher) on three pitches.

Jacque trying to save Dusty's job.

Or get traded somewhere with a better team

I don't think Hendry trades Jacque. If he plays well, Hendry will think he made the right move offering a three-year deal.

Now, the better Maddux pitches, the easier it will be to move him.

Agreed. I only see Hendry trading players whose contracts are up at the end of the year (Maddux, Pierre, Walker) rather than somebody he just signed as a free agent in the offseason (Jones).

If we win the next 20 in a row, we can be at .500 by August 3.

If we run the table, we can still finish 108-54

If we go 56-18 (.757) we can still win 90!

I really wonder if JH considers these numbers when he says stuff like "we can still go on a run, gotta play the vets"

It's exactly what he's thinking. He's mathematically challenged and doesn't realize how unlikely all that is.

Why does Sunday's game start at 5:05?

I think the ESPYs are on afterwords

Oh, I thought it had something to do with the Gay Games or something. I know the closing ceremonies are supposed to be held at Wrigley.

Wow.

What surprised me is this is gay games number 7? I've never heard of this until this year.

A friend of mine brought up a good point about them... how do they know that the contestants are actually gay? Edited by Brian

Ozzie says he's going to them.

FYI, the great 2nd half start by Maddux is coming to a screaching stop.

LoDuca, Beltran, Wright hit singles. Floyd doubled. Nady is getting the IBB treatment. 3-2 Mets, bases juiced 1 out. Woodward & Bernstein coming to the plate.

. . . and the celebrations that are sure to take place in "Boystown" in the hours after the Closing Ceremony will add even more to the memories.

If a straight person had written that, they would have been:

A: Called an insensitive homophobe

B: Accused of being a closet gay person who is repressing their true feelings.

C: Convicted of a hate crime

D: All of the above.

Actually, that's a common name for that part of the city.

What part? Boystown is a "neighborhood", kind of like Chinatown but for gay people.

Hernandez is a dirt ball.

He's claiming Nady was able to touch the bag but he was nowhere near it. Watching the replay he said, "we'll see if he can tough the bag", and prior to the guy actually getting to the bag he said "yep he got it" even though the picture clearly showed he didn't get the bag. Then later on another replay he said "close enough".
