I think Green Day is a tad underseeded considering they pretty much solely were responsible for people actually listening to punk again in the mid 90s, but they will lose to the #1 anyway. GD's the pick.

You mean mall punk?

Don't call it punk plz. It's fine if you like that music, but real punk would scare most Greenday/Simple Plan/Blink 182 fans.

Pearl Jam gets the vote because American Idiot and Warning have turned me from a fan to someone who would kick Billie Joe Armstrong in the balls if given the chance.

Thank you. Dead Kennedys, Subhumans (my favorite), Black Flag, DRI (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles), 7 Seconds, Suicidal Tendencies, and many others were/are punk music.

I've heard that Green Day is fantastic live while Pearl Jam sucks live.

I've only seen Pearl Jam live once, (and never seen GD) but I thought it was outstanding.

I think I'm in the minority as a big PJ fan. Green Day is fine, but they're nothing special to me.

I saw PJ front row center at the Allstate a few years ago. It was outstanding. It would've been great from the back row, too, but, well, I wasn't in the back row.

ps-any English majors that can tell me whether my rare 4 consecutive comma-ed words is actually correct?

I was an English major for a bit. The comma after row is definitely wrong. The one after "too" is either right or should be a semicolon. It's an awkwardly written sentence that you usually wouldn't see in print because it's written as a person speaks. Proper grammar wouldn't have the "well" in there, but with what you were trying to convey, it seems necessary.

I like all three of the bands you listed in that last part but to lump GD in with the other two much more poppish bands is nearly sacrilege.

GreenDay has some good stuff, but they still have a lot of poppy material and appeal.

I've gotta ask the non-Idiot GD fans since I'm not one: What is so wrong with that album?
Over-produced to hell. It doesn't sound like a real band playing the music, it seriously sounds like a computer. Same can be said about a majority of the vocals, particularly in the backup harmonies. It all just sounds so fake. Not only that, but a majority of the songs are just so plain and repetitive they get annoying halfway through the album. That said, I really liked it the first week I had it, but it got old VERY quickly, and now it's my least favorite Green Day album. (Ker-Plunk is still my alltime fave)

TEN....or also known as Mookie Blaylock AWESOME. VS. is solid but why on earth does 'Daughter' get radio airplay? I cant stand that one. Vitalogy i didnt really care for. I reluctantly bought Yield and was suprised after my Pearl Jam hietous(sp) that i like that CD. Some solid tunes.

They didn't write it and yet it is their big "statement" album.

I liked all their albums up until Warning when they got all "mature."

Greenday is pop punk. To call them punk is the sacrilege.

this is the first one that I'm truly having to think about. I own a total of 1 album from each band. I used to love them both, but have since soured on them (Green Day due to excessive exposure, Pearl Jam due to excessive smugness)

Absolutely, I could not have put it better. Throughout my teenage years in the mid 90's, when I was drumming for rock bands at party's and stuff, we played ALOT of Pearl Jam and Greenday stuff. I personally enjoyed playing drums on Green Day tunes because they are so quick and fun. Tough decision, but I went with Pearl Jam because I feel that Green Day has alot of songs that sound very similar. I'm not a fan of bands that stick to one formula of tune. I realize Green Day has improved in recent years with that, but I still went with Pearl Jam.

I've heard that Green Day is fantastic live while Pearl Jam sucks live.

probably the most incorrect statement ever uttered on these boards.

2nd, I've never seen Green Day live, but Pearl Jam was great.
