The White Stripes seriously seeded thigh high? Megadeth was a 16 but the White Stripes are a 9!?

WS shouldn't be a nine, but I'm surprised Megadeath even made this tourney.

I think it's funny that one of the most famous bands in the history of recorded music is seeded one higher than a two-piece gimmick band that has released only a few albums. I think this is a case of preference over historical significance.

I voted for the Stripes.

That Cardinal fan is dumber than a box of rocks.

The WS are easily one of the best bands I've ever heard.

Aerosmith has only ever written one good song, and it was their first single.

That being said, they get the vote over the White Stripes. The White Stripes have made their careers on being bad at their instruments. My 6 year old nephew can drum circles around Meg White, and anyone who's taken 6 months of guitar lessons can play less sloppily than Jack White (on the WS recordings). They're an absolute joke.

You clearly miss the point of the White Stripes

One of my all time favorite record reviews in Rolling Stone magazine was for an early Aerosmith album. The reviewer called Aerosmith the Rolling Stones' sloppy seconds. They looked, sounded like and behaved very much like the Stones.

Question about Whitestripes, I havent heard a lot of them but what I have heard they sound like a Christian band to me. Are they a Christian band? or are they like Creed and have some Christian upbringing that comes out in their music but chose not to be labeled that way?

I've only listened to De Stijl and Elephant more than once, but they are in no way a Christian band, based on those 2 albums.

Ditto. I said the EXACT same thing on the first page. "Dream On" is a dang fine song.

Ha! I just noticed that. And yes, that song is freakin' sweet, but it was all downhill from there.

I voted for the Stripes. My post was a commentary on how crappy a lot of public opinion is in my view.

I'd like to see any 6 month vet of the guitar play Ball and a Biscuit. Jack White's minimilistic style is just ironic because he's actually a fantastic Blues and Rock guitarist.

Exactly. The point is they sound like anyone who plugs in in the garage and cranks it to 11. You call it "sloppy", I call it "not processed through ProTools 173 times before going on the CD"

Trust me, I'm as big a critic on over-produced crap as anybody, but the White Stripes just play POORLY. There's no other word for it.

Here's an analogy - the White Stripes are the Neifi Perez of music. They don't play at a professional level, yet are rewarded with millions of dollars for that mediocrity.

I can't stand Aerosmith. They are another band that I just dislike because it seems like all their songs sound similar and are formulaic. Like, I honestly have a hard time distinguishing between "Crazy" and "Crying". They only have one song that I like, and that was their first one, 1972's "Dream On"

well they really jumped the shark when they hired people to write their songs for them.

DANG! I didn't know that! I cannot stand it when "artists" don't write their own material, especially ones that are trying to be taken seriously. It's one thing when the Spice Girls don't write their music, but when a band like Aerosmith doesn't, that really blows. It's actually the main reason that I don't respect Elvis as a musician very much, I don't believe he wrote any of his stuff.

There weren't that many artists writing their own material when Elvis started.

Typically, the producers would require their artist get writing credits before they'd record a song. That's why you see Elvis' name as writer on so many of his records.

i'm sorry, you must not understand art. it's a style of playing, that they do on purpose. it's called minimalism. de stilj? yeah, that's an art form, not just the name of one of their albums. very few musicians could make as complete albums as the white stripes do with the amount of instruments they use and the technology they employ. elephant was recorded completely without the use of computers. give me ONE other band on a major label that sells those types of units in the last 20 years that's done that. the drumming is on PURPOSE. i don't get people that can't wrap their heads around that.

that's not a bass line on seven nation army.

I know that it's done on purpose. My point isn't that they're not good musicians, only that they play VERY poorly, and make money off it. Their whole gimmick is not playing well. You can call it minimalism or art if you want to, but it's still lack of effort/talent shown that sets them apart from other acts. I've got my head wrapped around that they play poorly on purpose, but that's what upsets me. They don't play well and people love that about them, how does that make sense? They're duping their fans into shelling out big bucks to pay for their sloppily thrown together tracks in the name of art.
