The Don so far - 5.0IP 2H, 2BB, 3K

In the Southern League All Star Game, Mateo started the game and went 1 inning giving up 1 hit and getting 1 strike out, no runs. Walker and Moore are 1 for 2 with Moore's hit driving in a run.

Yay the Don.

Daytona is beating the snot out of Vero Beach thanks to a 7-run 5th. Spears, Spearman, Simokaitis, and Harvey all have two hits. 9-0 after 5.

Taylor is doing pretty well so far. 1 run through 5 on 4 hits, 0 BBs, and 3 Ks.

Papelbon either has filthy stuff or he's too advanced for Boise. he's pitched a 1-2-3 inning with 3 K's so far.

update

2.2IP, 1H, 5K, 1BB

Is Papelbon related to the Papelbon that is on Boston? Or is it just the same last name.

1 of 3 baseball kids. Jeremy is a younger brother and twin to Josh.

Jonathan - Boston MLB (2003 draft)

Jeremy - Cubs minor leagues (2006 draft)

Josh - Boston minors (2006 draft)

Interesting...Thanks for the info.

OK. I'm back. Notes from the Chiefs game.

The radar gun wasn't working, so I have no idea what kind of arm Taylor has. What impressed me the most about his outing was no walks. It's very rare to see a Cubs pitcher not named Maddux do that. He also reminded me of Maddux when he made a nice play on a ball hit right back to him. Norwood is a big guy and he made a nice play at first on a fairly sharply hit grounder. Carter made a nice running catch in right field and flexed his muscles with a home run just to the left of straightaway center. I'd guess it went around 400 feet. That's all I can think of right now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

As far as you could tell, did Taylor throw many breaking balls or changeups? Did he throw curveball (easier to recognize)? If not, maybe he's a fastball/slider guy?

How did Avery look? Hard to tell, and they are probably both somewhere around 90, so probably can't really tell. But if you had to guess, between Taylor and Avery, which would you guess threw harder?

Does Carter look like an ordinary guy? Or does he obviously look stronger than other guys?

Thanks. too bad no radar.
