With respect to Aramis loafing around the bases admiring his non-home run late in the game last night:

"Everybody says he doesn't hustle. He just hustled at the wrong time and wrong situation."

Uhh, I don't mean to get all Confucius on you Dusty, but if you hustled at the wrong time, that means you're not hustling at the right time.

I hate myself for hating this team so much. I hate everything about it. I miss my cubs.

While that is funny, it is not the best Dusty quote of all time.

That would be this one:

"It's just like fishing. You're going striped bass fishing. You've got birds on top and you follow the birds. Where the birds are, the bait fish are below that. Below the bait fish are the striped bass. That's what you want to do. That's how you want to do your lineup. That way they can't escape. That's how I try to make my lineup out so the opposition can't pitch around this guy or that guy and that guy and can't escape. You try to get them in the crossfire."

The second best Dusty quote would be the Grudzielanek-girlfriend quote. I can't find that one right now.

This one can compete for number three on the list.

No one has mentioned this bizarre gem from July 5, as quoted in the Sun-Times:

Baker used the analogy of a plane crash to describe how he views the situation.

"It's like the black box on the airplane,'' he said. "The airplane has a failure. Everybody is going to see [afterward] if it was pilot error or mechanical error or whatever. The one thing you learn about life, no matter what job you are in, you're going to have your turn to be in that box.

"Whether you are a manager or a coach or a CEO or a janitor, everybody is going to have a chance to be in ... I call it the black blame box. That's what it is.''

If you have a girlfriend and another one comes along, should you put your girlfriend down because the next girl is just as pretty? That ain't right.

Explaining why he's sticking with Grudz over...Walker? Who was Grudz competing with?

I expect Dusty to make excuses for a lazy star who has a walk option in his contract, most managers would do that. But you'd think Dusty could come up with something more convincing than "he hustled at the wrong time". That actually makes Aram look worse.

Does the mean ARam has the option of walking the bases instead of running?

No, that means he is allowed to take walks, unlike most of the other players, who didn't have that written into their contracts.

I call it the black RESPONSIBLITY box. You look at it to find out the cause of the crash, not so you can point blame at somebody else in hopes of covering your ass.

That's the one and he was referring to Walker after the Cubs had signed both prior to 2004.

i thought this was during the 04 season when walker had been injured and grudz was hitting decent and walker had just came back from injury around that time (maybe im just piecing together different instances)

What a pathetic manager. How can he possibly make an excuse for Ramirez on that play? He hustled at the wrong time? Give me a break.

This is a perfect example as to why Baker being manager is a terrible idea. He holds none of his players accountable, maybe only the rookies.

In 2004 it was actually the reverse, Walker had played well and Grudz came back from injury. I do not know at what time of the year that quote was made.
