According to Darin Sutton on the Milawukee broadcast, the Brewers have asked the Cubs if Maddux is available.

Maybe they can get Sheets and resign Wood.

Then the Cubs would have 3 starts on the DL most weeks.

I wonder if they'd give up Corey Hart for him.

Or what about Bill Hall? Can he play second base?

He's a free agent at the end of the year and he might be a bit expensive for Milwaukee as a bench guy/platoon with Hardy.

How about Mad Dog and Pierre for el horso??

Getting rid of Carlos Lee would defeat their purpose for acquiring Maddux (i.e. a playoff run).

Plus, if they were to get rid of Carlos Lee before the trading deadline, I would think the Yankees would be a better option to trade with since they desperately outfielders/hitting.

Corey Hart is projected to be just as good as Lee next year, and he'll be much, much cheaper.

As for the Yankees, being desperate doesn't make their farm system any better. There are only a couple of guys that the Yankees have that Milwaukee would want.

The Keyword to remember when talking about a guy like Corey Hart is projected. Lee is proven and wants to play in Chicago cheaper shouldn't matter because the Cubs are top tier in MLB in payroll with a ton of money coming off the books next year. Pierre, Willamson,Miller, Blanco,Wood, Maddux are all free agents.

But, if they want Maddux for this season then they obviously want to keep Carlos Lee for the remainder of this season because they think a playoff spot is possible. I'm under the assumption that acquiring Maddux is for a playoff run this year.

Is the Yankee farm system better than the cubs?

Ryan Braun, please

That 775 OPS between A+ and AA at almost age 26 doesn't quite do it for me.

How can Ryan Braun be 26?!? He was just drafted last year out of Miami.

-- edited to add:

He was their first round pick in 2005 out of the university of miami, was born on 11/17/83, which makes his seasonal age 22 this season.

Wow, the Baseball Cube is really messed up. There's two Ryan Brauns, and they're both completely off.

I'm fairly certain this is Braun's age 22 season.

And I'd take anybody who's AVG and IsoP are ranked at around the 90th percentile, even if he isn't willing to take a walk.

I'm pretty sure neither of those are near the 90th percentile this year.

Edited to remove "fairly certain", I didn't even see you use that.

He still projects mighty well. I'm hardly a sucker for projection... but this kid could pull a nice Wily Mo impression, with some extra BA on top.

Edit:

Looking at the kid a little closer, he projects to be about the same player as Aramis. More K's, but better D (assuming this year from Aramis is a fluke)

Does Maddux have a no trade clause? I've often wondered that, but I don't think I've read anything definitive. If so, I bet he'd be willing to waive it to go where his brother currently is.

No, but supposedly a gentleman's agreement with Hendry not to trade him without consulting him and receiving approval.

Bill Hall.Corey Hart, keep dreaming. This is 2006 not 1996. Maddux is basically a number 4 at this point of his career. Why would they give up their top prospects for a #4 ? Bill Hall is .274 17 HR 41 RBI and 26 years old.

Imagine how much better the Brewers pitching will be with both Maddux brothers in the dugout though.

Bill Hall is also a free agent after the season. Why we would want him considering that is beyond me though.

Those were my thoughts as well. We can just sign Hall as a FA in the offseason. I'd ask for Hart or Gallardo.
