...on ESPN 1000 here in the Second City. I don't know exactly what time he is scheduled for - the show airs from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. local time. If I am still in my office when he is on, I'll try and post a recap. If not, perhaps someone else can pick up the ball.

I miss Chip & Steve.

Kasper is a decent announcer and seems like a nice guy, but I heard the interview today and he pretty much refused to be critical of anything.

He's been on that show before, and he's been critical. He made the point made on this board 47,000 times that a team that doesn't walk and doesn't hit extra base hits needs to pound out 12-15 hits just for a decent 4 run output. Singles are pretty much useless by themselves, etc.

Although it's obvious that he has to bite his tongue due to his marching orders, you often hear him pepper his play by play with sabermetric type observations...I have a feeling that if allowed, he would pound the Cubs, and would be thoughtful and effective in doing so. I like Len a lot.

Steve Stone was never as critical as Brenly has been at times.

Agreed. I can't believe MacPhail and his goons haven't had a talk with Bob yet.

Brenly is/has been critical of a team 10-20+ games under .500, when nobody in the front office can genuinely dispute the opportunity to be critical. Stone was critical during times the club perceived itself as fighting for the division or the wildcard spot, when the front office might dispute the need for such criticism.

It's likely the different seasonal situations color the receipt of critism and the correpsonding response.

The irony is Stone wasn't as critical when it was a team 30 games under 500. He only became Steve Stone, defender of all truth and justice once he had beefs with the players.

Absolute hogwash.

Yeah, I don't agree with that either.

Stone was always the way he is now.

This is absolute revisionist history. He was never the way he was in '04 back in '99 and '00 with truly terrible teams.

Revisionist history? No. I would go so far to agree that Stone had never had such an adversarial relationship as he had with the '04 team, but to levee the fault of that situation on Stone is shortsighted. Recall the immaturity and unprofessionalism of Alou and Mercker alone.

However, his criticism of poor play and bad baseball (which is the topic here) has been consistent going back the 80s.

Making a claim of revisionist history is just misplaced.

Oh, I'm not placing blame for the '04 feud solely on Stone, I thought it was unprofessional all around, and the way the organization handled it was a joke. I just don't recall Stone being nearly as crtiical of teams that were far worse.

Getting back on track--

Len did call out Aramis for eyeballing hit hit, jogging to first, then sprinting (and getting thrown out at third) on his hit tonight in the seventh (?).

"Triples are made out of the batter's box, not between first and second," he said.

Did you hear Brenly on that? It seemed as if he viewed Aramis not running as a personal insult. Which he probably did considering I bet he had to work his tail off to put himself in a position to be an everyday major leaguer. So both Len and Bob called him out on that.

Bob has been getting on Aramis in the booth for not running out fly balls all year long, and rightfully so in most cases.

I have noticed a lot of instances this year where Len and Bob have been critical of moves that Dusty has made or plays on the field. I still like Chip and Stone better, but not by much.
