1 player from the white sox?

there's no way that's right, especially since ozzie even said he would start contreras if he hadn't lost a game before the break.

I did say "partial"

Rosters go up to 32 for the All-Star Game... and the rest should be Ozzie's pick, IIRC.

A few thoughts:

-Barrett definately should be in there.

-According to that list Oakland, Texas, and Kansas City are the only AL teams without a rep which means Ozzie will have 6 spots left to fill with his guys.

-It's interesting that both first basemen for the AL - Jim Thome and David Ortiz - rarely play in the field.

Figures that Barrett would get snubbed. If the reason why Barrett isn't on the roster because of his 10 game suspension, that will be ludicrous considering McCann was on the DL this year. McCann deserved a spot...Lo Duca did not. Thanks fans :x

Hmm, he might be on the final vote.

Also, there are only 30 people named on the NL side... (The AL has 31 (not counting Cano and Rios)).

Posted

the guy we whooped is getting the start for the AL... if you going to go with your own guy, go with Contreras...

Otherwise it should be Halladay, Rogers, or Santana...

Where did you guys hear that Buehrle would be starting? I thought Ozzie said Contrereas would be starting.

edit: never mind, I saw a link on the Trib's sports site. Wow, Buehrle is the worse of the 3 Sox pitchers selected and he somehow starts over Contreras/Santana/Halladay?

The BBTN guys said Buehrle and Martinez... I think, they might have just been showcasing one pitcher.

Barrett is not on the final vote block either. It's Capuano, Wagner, Abreu, Nomar and Chris Young from SD.

The AL final vote will have a chance to give the Sox another undeserving All-Star in Pierzynski but if anyone other than Hafner gets that (unless it is Liriano I guess) then there's no justice in the world.

Why would you call Pierzynski undeserving?

VORP among C in the AL

1. Joe Mauer 44.7

2. Michael Napoli 21.7

3. Ramon Hernandez 19.1

4. Victor Martinez 18.7

5. Jorge Posada 18.0

6. Kenji Jojima 17.5

7. A.j. Pierzynski 16.7

OBP SLG AVG

AJ Pierzynski .372 . 450 .326

R. Hernandez .336 .500 .274

V. Martinez .363 .458 .296

J. Posada .396 .468 .284

K. Johjima .351 .482 .298

Note: Napoli has only played in 43 games so I left him off and Mauer already made the team, so I excluded him.

If you view it this way, it seems to boil down to which you value more....obp or slg%.

That being said they are all very close in those regards. I'm not a sabermetric follower, so I'm not really sure how important VORP is compared to looking at OBP, SLG, or OPS.

That being said their vorp numbers(excluding Mauer and Napoli) seem to be very close, but like I said not really a sabermetric guy so they difference might mean more than I think.

If their numbers are close, then one needs to be chosen and I'm not sure any of the afforementioned catchers could be labeled "undeserving" considering that the number of roster spots makes the situation circumstantial.
