Dusty isn't playing any rookies he doesn't have to while he's trying to save his ass.

Probably true.

But there's a very small part of me that's hoping that JH instructed Dusty to play guys like Nevin in hopes of increasing their trade value. I know, it's the irrational part of me, but I'm hoping.

Exposing guys who can't play everyday by playing them everyday is a poor way to increase their trade value. Use them in the best situations for them and you might get some productivity, which is the only way to increase their trade value.

Why do you try and be logical and rational when criticizing Dusty's "thinking"? It just makes everything that's happening more painful.

Guzman's line on the 16th:

5.1 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 1 R, 8 K

He looked great; I was there.

The Cubs are so bass-ackwards at this point they punish their good performers.

Neifi has been moved to pitch in Rusch's slot. Guzman is going to have to wait his turn. Originally it was meant for Ortiz but those darn birds swooped in and stole him.

He is being rested for the playoffs.

That's right, remember the last playoff when Dusty came up shorthanded in games 6 & 7. Not happening in this years playoffs!

Good thing we've taken this oft-injured kid who's finally healthy and slowly, but steadily built up his stamina so he can pitch 200 innings in a year or two.

/sarcasm off

What the hell is he still doing on the major league club if he's not going to pitch?!

"It's the life of a middle reliever, dude." Don't worry, Rusch will be back soon to save the bullpen. Although his velocity is down a little, he is 'throwing well'.

after hill threw 4 1/3 no hit, six k innings in relief on 6/22/05, he didn't even pitch in a big league game again until 7/25/05. so, what i'm saying is, guzman's got another two weeks.

now when rusch throws "well" out of the pen one time he gets a spot in the rotation. fair is fair.

Well with Barrett on suspension and the bench a player short, it was crucial to have that 12th pitcher in the pen to, um, wait, no, that's not....a screw it, I give up.

Guzman is still up here? I seriously thought we sent him back down to Iowa during my month off..
He was sent down, but then he was called back up. He pitched very well in relief in his last appearance, but has been MIA since then.

He's doing a nice job of being the bullpen warmup protecter of foul balls guy.

"It's an important job, dude. We wouldn't want Novoa to get hit by a foul ball. He's one of my horses, dude."

Awesome handle/avatar.

He'll be able to go back to Iowa tomorrow and tell his friends even more stories about how horribly run this team is.

It's amazing that he's not in the rotation over Marshall or Marmol.

It just proves that this coaching staff doesn't have a clue.

That's what happens why they spend all of their time trying to figure out how to make the media think they're semi-competent. They have too much going on to think about their players.
