Just another example of how bad our team/organization has been over the many, many years. Cardinal fans are in an uproar and state of shock because they are on an eight-game losing streak, their first since 1988. I was graduating high school in 1988.

I wonder how many 8+ game losing streaks have the Cubs had since 2000 let alone since 1988? Kind of puts things in perspective.

1 this season (2 more of 6, 1 of 5).

2 last season (1 more of 7).

On the subject of losing streaks...I thought I heard Pat Hughes say that this season was the first time the Braves lost as many as seven straight in FIFTEEN  years...not sure of the source for that.

I was at the Cards game last night. As soon as they brought Izzy in all the fans around me were grumbling and complaining about how dumb Tony LaRussa is. There was a whole row of guys calling for him to be fired right in front of me.

As soon as the Indians committed 2 errors in the 9th they forgot all about how poorly the bullpen pitched giving up the game.

The sick thing about it is after Izzy ruined Carp's great pitching performance he gets the win. No justice, I tell ya.

Did you throw your seat cushion on to the field?

You can see me in this video if you look really hard.

I'm the guy in the upper deck throwing his seat cushion.

I don't think that's what the Cards had planned for the promo night.

Now they can have another seat cushion night just by redistributing the ones on the field.

And Izzy did not ruin Carp's performance (mind you Johnson, Looper, etc all blew chunks before him).. he did his job.. Taguchi and Eckstein didnt get that ball.. I have no problem with him walking Hafner to load em but Taguchi was poor.. catch that ball, no run scores.. next batter he gets to fly out.. Cards woulda been leading 3-2 after 8 but there was some piss poor effort out in the OF there.. Izzy pitched a scoreless 9th.. then the team came back giving him the deserved win..

For all you finite mathematics fans out there.........

          1991 thru 2005 World Series
team W L pct PA W L

Chicago Cubs 1138 1224 0.482 2 0 0
Atlanta Braves 1431 931 0.606 14 1 4

The probability of Atlanta losing any random game is 0.394 while the probability of the CUBS losing a game is 0.518. Therefore.......

p(Atlanta losing 7 straight) = 0.394 ^ 7 = 0.0014739

p(CUBS losing 7 straight) = 0.518 ^ 7 = 0.0100071

In conclusion, the CUBS are 6.79 times more likely to lose 7 games in a row than the Atlanta Braves are.

Go CUBS !!

Now the Cardinals are in their second 8 game losing streak this year.

I've also heard (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong) that this is the first time in baseball history that a team has had two 8-game losing streaks and managed to not fall out of first place during either.

Just illustrates how really bad the NL Central is.
