looks like Peoria is also getting Nate Price in the outfield:

http://www.peoriachiefs.com/news/?id=6072

not quite sure why that happened - we lost Mota (infield) and Muyco (catcher - replaced by Farina), and currently have Garcia, Carter, Valdez, Gregg, and Ciaramella in the outfield. 6 seems like too many folks...perhaps Garcia's going back to playing more 1st?

The other thing I'm unsure of is if the catcher shift is just for the time that Barrett is serving his suspension, or whether this will be the way things look moving forward. We'll see how things shake out.

It's gotta be for more than just Barrett suspension since the big league squad didn't call up Reyes or Soto.

But he's not on Boise's web site's roster. They need to update!

And I'd imagine it'd be hard to have visa problems at this time of the year since these guys should have been in Mesa since March.

Oddly enough, Samardzija is listed on Boise's roster on the MiLB.com website.

I saw Samardzija interviewed in a Hawks cap from Boise on ESPN 360 this morning.

He's with the team and has been working out with them. But his contract hasn't been approved by MLB, so he can't officially be on a roster.

Thanks. Wasn't sure how that worked.

Anybody actually watch Pagan? Did he look much slower than he did before? Part of what made him such an effective ballplayer was his blistering speed, if he's lost any more than a half-step I'm not sure how useful he'll be. :?

Was he really that useful in the first place?

I suppose that is debatable.

It would be hard to find major leaguers with career minor league numbers as bad as Bynum's and who are going to get as much starting time as him in the outfield, but Pagan comes darn close (.717 OPS vs. .710 OPS). They're equally sub-par on the basepaths careerwise, as well.

Daytona won the 1st game of the 2nd half 4-1. Holliman went 7 1/3 only giving up 2 hits, 0 runs, 3 BB's, and had 4 K's. Hunton went 2/3's of an inning allowing a run (unearned), and a BB. Mendez pitched the 9th to get his 13th save of the year as he went 1 inning allowing 1 hit and had 1 K to lower his ERA to 0.64.

Muyco went 2/3 and Ryan Harvey went 1/3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk. Jonathan Mota also went 1/3 with a double and an RBI. Not much offense from Daytona as that was their only hits, but they did have 6 BB's as well. Nice to see Muyco and Mota have nice games tonight.

Iowa leads Omaha 8-5 in the 7th.

West Tenn is tied at 1 in the 7th.

Peoria is down 3-0 in the 8th.

Holliman's start was the longest by a Daytona pitcher this season - longer than any start by even Sean Gallagher.

Boise lost 7-3 and are off to a 0-4 start. Deryck Lewis went 2/4 with 2 RBI and another walk. Jeremy Papelbon made his professional debut with 2 shutout innings of relief work.

Draftniks will be happy to know that 2006 9th rounder Cliff Andersen has been signed, as he saw some playing time in Mesa today.

Also, I have no clue who the guy who blew the save for Mesa is.
