Gilbert signed? I know he was a DFE but I thought he was going back to school. Also unless the Cubs are moving him back to 3B, he played OF pretty much all year this year.

Mesa is losing to the AZL Angels 2-1 in the middle of the 5th. Angels first round pick Hank Conger is 1 for 2 with an RBI triple.

Mesa scored their only run of the game when Valerio Heredia reached on a bunt single, stole second, advanced to third on a Mario Mercedes grounder and then stole home. I wonder if MiLB.com's game log is lying to me on that one...

Phil Norton went 2 IP and gave up both the runs. Leonel Perez threw 1 shutout inning and thus far, Ronald Clipp (2006 33rd rounder) has thrown 2.

Angel Pagan is 0 for 2 so far:

Bottom 1st: Angel Pagan grounds out, second baseman Alex Fonseca to first baseman Matt Ryan.

Bottom 3rd: Angel Pagan flies out to center fielder Jeremy Moore.

Mesa has 2 guys picked off in the 5th inning, the second to end the inning while Pagan was up to bat.

Valerio Heredia must have some serious speed; in the first inning he had a bunt single and stole 2 bases (2B and Home). He's already 20 and his bat doesn't appear to fit at 3B, but he's a switch hitter with speed I bet he'll be up in the bigs soon.

Mesa scores 4 in the bottom of the 6th and takes a 5-2 lead.

Angel Pagan walked, stole a base and scored. He's still 0 for 2.

Angel Pagan walks.

Valerio Heredia singles on a ground ball to second baseman Alex Fonseca. Angel Pagan to 2nd.

With Mario Mercedes batting, Angel Pagan steals 3rd base. Valerio Heredia steals (3) 2nd base.

Mario Mercedes hit by pitch.

Blake Parker walks. Angel Pagan scores. Valerio Heredia to 3rd. Mario Mercedes to 2nd.

Adam Hackstedt pops out to shortstop Carlos Colmenares.

Jeremy Williams walks. Valerio Heredia scores. Mario Mercedes to 3rd. Blake Parker to 2nd.

Cody Gilbert strikes out swinging.

Wilson Inoa reaches on throwing error by shortstop Carlos Colmenares. Mario Mercedes scores. Blake Parker scores. Jeremy Williams to 3rd.

Pedro Lopez flies out to left fielder Clayton Fuller.

Heredia is 2/3 with 3SB and 2 runs scored now I believe. He was only 7-10 all of last year. It's also kind of strange that they're pretty much playing 3 catchers right now.

Also, C Wellington Castillo, who was supposed to be on Boise's roster isn't there. Wonder where he's headed (I thought he was more likely for Mesa than Boise at the start of the season).

Ya, I noticed that Blake Lalli popped up on Boise's roster in his place. Maybe he's injured or having visa problems? I know he was talked very highly of during spring training.

Castillo got an AB in Boise's second game of the season.

But he's not on Boise's web site's roster. They need to update!

And I'd imagine it'd be hard to have visa problems at this time of the year since these guys should have been in Mesa since March.

Oddly enough, Samardzija is listed on Boise's roster on the MiLB.com website.

He's no longer listed on their roster however, so I suspect and injury problem. With 4 catchers on Mesa's roster I can't see them demoting him, and he's only 19 I believe so Peoria would probably be rushing him.

I don't trust MiLB.com's rosters for Boise and Mesa. They're just guessing sometimes. I was basing it off BoiseHawks.com.

Texascub, Wellington has been off their roster even before he got his AB a few days ago, so who knows.

Pagan was replaced on defense before the 8th inning started by Clifford Andersen. Angel's final stat line for the day is: 0/3, BB, SB, R.

Mesa goes down quietly in the bottom of the 8th. To the 9th, they lead it 5-4.

Randy Brown (not the former Bull guard) comes in to try to close it out and blows it. He gives up a single, a double (by Conger), a single and a FC which allows the Tempe Angels to score 2.

To the bottom of the 9th we go, Tempe leads Mesa 6-5.

I just noticed that Farina is listed on both Boise's and Peoria's roster, so Wellington probably took his spot on Boise's roster.
