the Atlanta Braves are in last place in the NL East. I think it's safe to say that this is likely the year that the streak of consecutive division titles ends.

Does this have to do with Leo you think, or was it just lucky they made an incredible run last run to win it again?

I think it was all a matter of time. Based on their philosophy of letting some of their better players go via free agency that eventually they were going to fail to win the division. I don't think that the Atlanta Braves will finish in last place this year, but I don't think they'll win the division anymore. Who knows, I might be wrong though.

the funny thing is, the braves seem to acknowledge the fact that they are out of it (unlike a certain other team). you'd think that if any team would be foolishly clinging to a faint hope of the postseason, it'd be the braves, who would be fighting to continue an amazing run of success...and not the cubs, who haven't tasted anything resembling success since 2003.

during the game last night, smoltz was talking about being traded, and what teams he would consider going to...all but admitting that the braves' season is over. they were also recalling conversations w/ other players and coaches about how the streak is going to end.

Don't be surprised if "it ain't over till it's over" Hendry picks the carcass and loses our better prospects in the process.

Which can only be good for baseball. I grew tiresome of seeing their stadium half empty for their playoff games.

Except in 2003 when they played the Cubs and we made it Wrigley Field South!!!

He talked about possibly being traded to Detroit, which would really bring things full circle for him.

John Kruk also brought it up during last night's BBTN. Smoltz should have the option to go wherever he wants to finish his career. He's earned it.

Smoltz is a 10 and 5 player, so in essence he has a no-trade clause.

Wow, that would really make Detriot a favorite in that division.

Had to happen eventually, but geez what a run, especially in the latter years after they broke up the Smoltz/Glavine/Maddux tandem.

They've been winning that division with much lesser lineups recently. A true testament to the organization and Bobby Cox.

Not that I don't want a new top dog over there. It will be nice to see someone else win it for a change. An NL playoffs with no Atlanta will be refreshing.
