I haven't seen the video, but I heard it while listening to the game on the radio. I was like "Did he just say what I think he said?" Classic! The Cubs already issued an apology for Pivens' word choice. What they should be doing is issuing an apology for this pathetic excuse fora team, which is much more offensive than anything Piven said.

The only reason that what Piven did bothers me, is that it gives the Cubs one other thing to try to turn everyones attention to, instead of the stuff going on on the field.

You're going on the assumption that Hendry/Baker/MacPhail would have addressed team performance and needs even without the current distractions. Don't fall into that trap. There will always be scapegoats and reasons other than management itself for our problems.

The problem is that not everything will always be there, namely myself. If this team isn't fixed in some appreciable way by next spring training, I'm finished with this garbage. There are 29 other teams, and at least six of them are run correctly.

Faith and perseverance are fun if they are trying to deliver the goods, but that isn't happening.

The Cubs actually had a discussion with Piven about this before it happened and he told them he wouldn't use the "B" word, but then did it anyway. You gotta love it. Stickin it to the man.

Piven had a line about the Cubs in last nights Entourage as well. It was pretty funny. The movie he was promotong was in danger of losing money because there were blackouts across California. His wife told him not to worry about it because there as nothing he could do about it.

He responded that it wasn't the Cubs fault when that (expletive) reached over and deflected the fly ball in the playoffs, Cubs fault or not they still didn't get a WS ring.

I think Jeremy Piven is hilarious. I had to change my signature as soon as I heard that line in the show last night.

I'm really ticked that I missed the 7th inning stretch yesterday. Especially considering I watched Prior throw batting practice in the first inning.

I may be in the minority, but for it was pretty pathetic for him to say that yesterday during the seventh inning stretch. Not only was it father's day, so alot of kids were at the game, but alot of kids (like mine) were at home watching the game with their Dad. His act has its place, but it is not during a Cubs game. I remember Jeff Garlin singing the seventh inning stretch last year, and he handled himself with dignity.

I suppose in Piven's mind he does his little act and gets all kinds of publicity over it and it helps boost the ratings. Unfortunately, it worked.

One more reason to get rid of the 7th inning stretch singers. This is just like Ozzie's little act a couple years ago. It is all about self promotion.

Maybe it will start an escalation of who can use the most vile language without the Cubs permission during their rendition. Bring on Andrew Dice Clay, another shining example of how swearing makes you hilarious to a certain fan base, and I am sure he will really show it to "the man".

Ugh...

Relax-it was one word. I'm sure kids have heard a lot worse from their friends, neighbors, and relatives.

I am not personally offended, and I am sure that no kids will be scarred for life, but that does not make it acceptable or appropriate.

When you accept an invitation as a guest to someone's home or place of business the least you can do is show some respect to your host. Cursing after giving your word that you would not is not only disrespectful but it shows a lack of character. It definitely is not behavior worth celebrating.

Actually, I get the idea of self-promotion, and I doubt the use of the phrase garnered the show any additional converts-seeing as how its on pay cable and appeals to a certain fanbase who are probably already watching the show.

The point is that if the use of one word during the seventh inning stretch is enough to stunt your worldview enough to call him pathetic, then you probably just need to relax a little and stay off the high horse.

a. Personally, I doubt that there was an agreement made beforehand that he wouldn't say that. My guess is that is just Tribune Company CYA.

b. I thought it was acceptable, appropriate, and funny. I feel no reason to judge.

c. I appreciated his honesty in the booth more than any joker of a guest they've had so far this year. My guess is that if he's not asked back, it'll be because he dared to criticize the team, not because he cursed.
