That this team need some changes. We Cubs fans deserve WAAAAY better than what we have been given. I mean, can you think of ANY other ball club, if things have gotten this bad. That they wouldn't make some changes and do some major shake-ups? . . . . . . .Only the Cubs.

And how much are their payrolls?

Well as long 40,000 sheep keep going through the turnstiles every game there is nothing wrong. Unhappy fans don't spend their hard earned cash on a team with major flaws so everything must be okay.

What do you guys think about so many fans rooting for the Tigers in this series? When you think about it, if fans are truly only going to Wrigley Field for the great experience and it continues to sellout, why wouldn't they root for the team with the best chance to win the game? The team the Cubs are fielding this year is a joke.

Crap, if we're going to sell out every game, why not take an Oakland style approach?

Go cheap on payroll, but get the guys in the front office that know a baseball player when they see one.

Then the big shots make their money by not spending much and maybe, just maybe the fans get something worth pissing on on the field.

As it is now, it's a freaking embarassment, and I've never ever ever ever been embarassed to be a Cub fan (until maybe now).

Just listening on the radio that past week or so, it's obvious that Ronny wants to lash out. . . . I sure wish he would.

Just think, the Cubs are only a game and a half in front of the Pirates. Two games (more or less, and just a half game in the loss column) worse than the D-Rays.

And while it's a heck of a lot, the Cubs are only 8 games better than the worst team in baseball, the Royals. This could be an ugly end to the season, as I feel like we're going to challenge them soon for the worst record.

Detroit's not so far away. I'd make that trip in a heartbeat, especially given the rarity with which the Tigers come to Wrigley.

Michigan isn't far from Chicago at all. It shouldn't be a surprise that many fans are coming to Wrigley to see an interleague match between the Tigers and Cubs. I grew up in Michigan, and I would have relished the opportunity to see the Tigers play the Cubs at Wrigley.

IMO, this is no worse than '99, or '02, or several other seasons where we just plain sucked. I've been embarrassed to be a Cub fan many times in my life. Add '06 to the long list of brown-paper-bag seasons being a fan of this franchise.

On the A's approach: that would take actual TALENT. The Cubs can't round up a .500 ballclub with $100 million dollars. We'd make the Royals look like the Yankees if we tried to actually evaluate prospects successfully.

Only new everything, from top to bottom, would make such an approach possible. New owners because the Trib has no clue who to hire. New GM because Hendry wouldn't know the value of OPS if it bashed him in the face, and a new manager because we all know that's not how Baker rolls----he's pretty much a seniority system manager, preferring the most marginal vets to young guys with talent. And then misusing the young talent he does have until they either wash out or find a team that knows what to do.

Besides, the Trib wants everyone to *believe* they care, remember? Most especially, themselves. But I'll never buy it. They care about as much as Bill Gates cares when he buys beach house #20. It's a status symbol for them, nothing more. The Cubs are a nice feather in the Tribune's cap. And it's for us fans to suffer for their incompetence and lack of passion.

Have people not yet resorted to wearing brown bags on their heads?

That might get someone's attention. It's usually good for some National exposure as well.

It's because Cub fans are beginning to sell their tickets to those who care about the games. And Tiger fans have good reason to care, although if it's really going to take as long as the Tigers to get back to a respectable ballclub, then maybe even Cub fans will begin finding other, more fulfilling things to do on Summer weekends.

They will keep selling out every game because the tickets are already sold. Us unhappy fans will continue to be "sheep" and go through the turnstiles because we already gave the crooks at the Trib our hard earned money. Trust me, if I knew that every time I went to the game, I had to see Neifi batting 2nd I wouldn't have wasted my money. But since I already have my tickets and I live right down the block, I will continue to go watch the games every saturday. Probably will next year also...There always is next year...right?

The Chicago Cubs are the only team in Sports period that gets ridiculed for people showing up to there games be it Cubs fans or oposing fans. Kind of strange. I see attendence next year to be like it was 5 years ago, Day weekday games only bottom level and bleachers will be sold out. While night and weekend games will be packed. Mid June to Mid August probably will be packed also during day games. (Summer Vacations)

I see a big difference. In those years the Cubs made a managerial change (after the season in 1999, during the season in 2002). This year we have an incompetent general manager given an extension and talking about giving an incompetent manager an extension. At least in those other years they did something about the situation; this time they just blame it on injuries and pretend that all is hunky dorey.

Not only that...as much as people don't want to say it...the 99 and 02 teams had a rightfielder who was as much fun to watch as any player in baseball.

We also had a ton of prospects in 2002 that were heavily overhyped (Cruz, Choi, Patterson) and those guys plus Prior ("the best college pitcher ever"/"Mr. Perfect mechanics, never will get hurt") were going to turn the Cubs into a super dynasty, and Sammy would hit 80 HRs with those guys and Moises Alou to protect him. You never see NFL or college sports fans ridiculed for showing up.

I agree with your attendance assessment, though I think our average will still be higher than what was seen pre-'03.
