Not that it makes anyone feel any better, but the Cubs aren't the only "contenders" that are pretty much out of it for this season. The Orioles are 9 back, the Indians 12, the Phillies 9 1/2, the Braves 13, and the Brewers are 8 back. Many sportswriters picked the Indians, Phillies, and Brewers to win their divisions.

I'll have to go back and hunt for my predictions, but I believe I had:

NY Mets

Cardinals

Dodgers

Boston

White Sox

Seattle (still waiting on this long shot)

Of course, the Braves, Indians, and Brewers are playing some kids, so there is some hope for the future.

Interesting quote by Girardi regarding Hanley Ramirez' struggles:

From Rotoworld: "You have to learn how to fight and make adjustments in this game," Girardi said. "The more at-bats he gets, the quicker he's going to do it."

So, Girardi wants a top prospect to play through the struggles, which in his opinion is part of the learning process apparently, while Baker wants to bench his top prospect for a never will amount to anything, crap player.

What else can be said? Every player in this game was a rookie at one time. Many (if not most) struggled at one point or another.

And I'm not quite sure if Murton is really to blame for his struggles.

And especially when they say he has trouble hitting righties. I'm sure he has faced right-handed pitching 85% of the time he has played baseball.

You learn form not playing and watching BbB. That's why so many people that sit in their chairs and watch the game are better players than the ones out there. I bet you could grab a 20 year season ticket holder and put him out there and he'd be a 30 HR 330/440 type hitter. Ask Dusty if you don't believe I'm right.

As for the point of this thread, I'm rooting for that #1 pick but I'm sure Baker will with one week remaining in the season play those kids that no one has a book on and the Cubs will go 5-1 and blow any chance they have to get that pick.

Dusty will still be managing then? Ughh

And beyond. The day the Cubs extend Dusty's contract will be rubber glove give-a-way at Wrigley. The trainer will do his thing to each fan that day and then the Cubs will fire him the next day as it's his fault they had so many injuries. Somebody has to be made responsible for this mess.

Misery loves company...... is about the only reason I can think of why the CUBS are on a pace to draw 3,214,728 fans this season !!

So they should change the name from Wrigley to Misery Stadium then?

come on the only reason? half the bleachers are filled with drunk college kids who dont care whats going on. a large majority leave after the 7th inning stretch. they arent coming to see this crap team, they are coming to see the place the crap team plays at.

Wrigleyville is packed with people from michigan, there are very large numbers of cars from there in that area right now. its because of Wrigley and thats it. they dont go to the hole on the south side

Except some of those teams are good and probably will be contending at the end of the season.

I picked the Braves to win their division solely because it was the Braves. My thought's coming into the season were:

Braves

Cardinals

Padres

Red Sox

White Sox

A's

My only clunker of a pick was the Braves. Although you could have picked a team out of a hat and not made a bad pick for the NL West so far this year. Coming into today the last place teams (Colorado and SF) were 2 games out of first.
