Jon Danks would be interesting, but I would rather see the cubs get a posistion prospect for wood, we are pretty set on young arms right now.

I'd settle for Danks in a heartbeat.

Danks' HR/9 is 1.57 down in the Texas League. Ewwwwwwwwwwww.

Um...how about Edison Volquez? He's doing pretty well down in AAA right now and seems to have passed Diamond and Danks on the Rangers' pitching prospect lists, both of whom are repeating AA this year and having a bit of a rough time with it.

Yea...

...see the thing about this is....

...MLB Trade rumors is so full of crap, if they had eyes, they would be brown.

I don't think the California Penal League would trade for Kerry right now, let alone another MLB team.

Did you say CA Penal League?

I'm pretty sure that any website with contributors that no anything would understand that KERRY WOOD HAS A FRIGGIN NO TRADE CLAUSE!

How many times do we have to say it?

For all the problems the Cubs have had developing hitters, they do have a gift for getting the best out of their pitching prospects (when not injured, that is). At 21, Danks might be a worthwhile project, and I'm skeptical that Wood would stay with the Cubs in 2007 as a reliever.

They fully acknowledge this in the article ... :?:

True, but if Volquez has more upside, I'd rather go with him.

Or heck, maybe the Cubs could somehow con the Rangers out of two of those three. :D

Agreed, but with Wood's injury history, I'm doubtful we'd get more than Danks anyway.

Wouldn't hurt to try, given that they're battling it out with the A's for the AL West and have fallen short a few too many times in recent years due to a lack of quality pitching.

i bet Wood would waive his clause if a team is willing to pick up his option as a condition of the trade. I'm not sure why any team in their right mind would do that especially at this point though.

I'm pretty sure (in fact, I'm 100% sure) that players with no-trade clauses routinely accept trades. Indeed, if some team was willing to pick up Wood's $13 million option as a condition to a trade, I'd be shocked if he didn't accept it.

Acting like there is absolutely no chance that Wood will be traded is more naive than ignoring his NTC.

And no one has ever waived their NTC either, correct?

It's been widely reported that Wood's NTC is exactly that, and he would not waive it.

Exactly what?

NTCs are simply negotiating tools for players to get compensated for being traded and to direct their next destination. You wouldn't be able to trade him to Tampa or KC, because neither will make it financially beneficial to Wood. But you could probably swing a deal with a number of other teams.
