It's never bad to hit Pierzynski. He should be hit at least once per game. As for the rookie pitcher, I wish he had picked up a ball and beaned Guillen.

I'd say the same for Barrett.

Sure. 90% of the league wouldn't get warm fuzzies inside like they do when A.J. gets hit, though.

Barrett has issues, but he's a few rungs up the ladder from A.J.

Pierzynski is widely vilified, mostly be his own ex-teammates. And for good reason.

It was terrible to snap on Tracey, but it was much worse to bean AJ TWICE. There was no history between them whatsoever.

I believe Padilla hit hit once earlier in the season as well. Wasn't he on the mound, with the Angels, during the playoffs when AJP pulled that fake "I didn't strikeout" move then reached 1B? Padilla has a long memory.

Texas acquired Padilla from the Phillies.

I'm really sick of the "old school" crap too. Many in baseball wonder why they are losing all of the premium athletes to other sports, and that's partly why. Christ, if every other sport stayed "old school", nobody in the NFL would be wearing real helmets with facemasks and, well, the NBA would still suck but at least they would shoot free throws underhand and wear shorts that show off their stuff.

Baseball keeps plodding along, too stubborn to change. Put your quick guys at the top, even if they can't get on base. Play the guys who've been there, even if they've sucked doing it. Ignore facts, even when they prove your experienced eyes wrong.

Ozzie can kiss my butt.

It does.

Jesus. How fast is Ozzie going to run himself out of town when things get tough? The White Sox aren't going to win forever and when they start losing in a few years, Ozzie is going to be run out of town so fast it is going to make your head spin.

Hmmm, you're right! Then it was someone else that plunked him, seemingly on purpose, earlier in the year. It's happened a few times.

Meh, after watching "Kid gloves" Dusty for 3.5 seasons, its nice to see a manager with the balls to challenge a player publically when he doesn't do what the manager wants. This may be extreme, and probably on the side of uncalled for, but its a nice diversion from 'dude i dont challenge players in front of the cameras'

Have you forgotten when Dusty ripped into Corey after hitting a walkoff HR, in full view of the camera and crowd?

My thoughts....

Protecting your players is fine, if you want to hit somebody because they have hit your guy twice, I'm ok with that. Its part of the game.

Sending a rookie out there to do the job isn't the best situation. Put somebody out there who has done it before.

I understand Ozzie's frustration, but his treatment of that kid was uncalled for. You want to air him out? Fine, do it behind closed doors if you feel that strongly about it. Don't do it publically and embarass him even further.

That's my biggest problem with his actions. The rookie did throw inside twice, although he didn't hit Blalock. I'm sure he's nervous already, pitching in just his 3rd game. Then he gets asked to go out and drill one of the best hitters on the other team. I'm sure that's not an order he received too frequently in the minors. And, I think he was trying to be too careful and not do something that will get him in really hot water, like hit Blalock in the head.

Ozzie might be a good manager, but he continues to prove that he's a classless individual. I'll say good riddance once he's out of baseball.

On an unrelated note, Tracey has looked alright since getting called up. Hopefully he can be the #5 when they let Garcia/Buehrle walk after 07.

I think Tracey would be better suited as a big league reliever. Who knows what Ozzie's temper tantrum will do to him and his career, though. Broadway is more likely to be a 5th starter down the line.

IMO, that will never happen. The Sox (and their fans) consider Guillen to be "one of their own", and he is widely loved because he acts like a prick.

From espn.com...

7) Do you think White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen expressly ordered rookie pitcher Sean Tracey to hit Hank Blalock in Wednesday's game?

95.8% Yes

4.2% No

So being as 96% of the public can plainly see that Guillen ordered his pitcher to bean a batter, shouldn't he be suspended by MLB? After all, they suspend pitchers when they deem that the pitcher intentionally throws at a batter. A manager should likewise receive punishment for ordering a pitcher to throw at a batter.

If nothing else, MLB should ask for an explanation why the pitcher was removed after recording an out and then was summarily berated in the dugout.

If there weren't a DH this kind of crap wouldn't happen.

I don't know if you did this knowingly or if it is a coincidence, but you just said the same thing using the exact words that Hawk Harrelson did during the broadcast of the game when it was all taking place.

Ozzie was faced with the problem of having one of his pitchers nail a Ranger. Since they are going to lose Brian Anderson soon because of the Cubs-Sox fight, they will be one man short anyway. If Vasquez nails a Ranger, he gets tossed and no suspension. Old school says Vasquez should take care of it. He didn't do it. It was his catcher they nailed twice. So now Ozzie must send in a rookie pitcher to finish the deal. They could always use the excuse of the rookie being wild and people would have bought it. He missed, but at least he tried. Now Ozzie blows up because he knows he can't plunk anybody now, because it's too obvious. The umps will probably warn the Sox before tonight's game.

If there was no DH and the pitcher was allowed to bat, it would have been taken care of and that would be that. Old school pitchers like Gibson, Drysdale, Marichal, etc.. would have taken care of it-pronto.

Not to mention they're one man short with Brian Anderson in the lineup.

I not a fan of Ozzie getting on the guy in the dugout and not the clubhouse but if Tracy played high school or college ball he knows to protect his teamates and he didn't last night. I don't wanna hear the crap that he's only been here a couple days as soon as you put that uniform on your teamates . Had this been Rich Hill on the mound and he hadn't repsoned to Barrett getting drilled twice by Oswalt you guys would be all over him and Dusty . The only problem here is Ozzie getting on him in the dugout in front of everyone.

Gibson rarely hit batters.

Two reasons for that:

1) Nobody would be stupid enough to show him up.

2) Nobody would crowd the plate on him. That would hurt.

Even though he didn't hit many, very few hitters were not intimidated by Gibson.
