I could see Bob Brenly fitting in quite nicely as manager.

He brought the D-Backs from nothing to a series, maybe he could have the same effect on the Cubbies (although quite unlikely)

He had Randy Johnson and Curt Shilling.

I don't know who should replace Baker but everytime I hear Leyland's quote on ESPN radio promos I wish we had gone that route:

(paraphrased)

When we are down big and I see alot of popups, that is a guy swinging for the fence and trying to get a cheap homerun off a pitcher who's throwing fastballs to stay ahead in the count. I won't stand for that.

that is a horrible paraphrase but I love the sentiment that we get back into games with baserunners not with solo homeruns and that we look to team goals not personal goals. It hurts even more when we are down 5 and Ramirez pops up to shallow left for the Cubs 7th consecutive fly ball out.

And a juiced Luis Gonzalez.

And Mariano Riveria botching an easy comebacker DP.

When I listen Brenly "stratigize" during the games, I am fairly confident that he would be a worse manager than Dusty. He wanted to bunt to first for five innings to see if Edmonds can play first.

Brenly has said many stupid things in the year and a half or so as color man, but that wasn't one of them. He only kept saying that because the Cubs were too stupid to ever try.

He already has a job.

Yes, but that should not discourage the Cubs from going after him if Dusty were gone.

No that was a stupid idea.

It made sense to me, especially since Edmonds was recently returning from an injury. *shrug*

I hate to break it to you...Brenly rode "Showalter's team" to the World Series. All Brenly did was sit back and enjoy the ride.
