Marmol is pitching tommorow. So bump goes this thread. Watching Marmol is one of the very few reasons I care to watch Cubs baseball anymore.

Are you serious? He has only pitched for one game, lol.

I like what I saw the first time, but chill.

Remember what Glendon Rusch did last year? (6-2)

All I am saying is, this could be beginners luck.

Lets hope I'm wrong!

Incorrect. That was his first start. Before his first start he pitched in 4 innings in Houston. Compiling numbers of: 0.00 ERA, 0.75 whip, 6:0 k:bb. Granted a very small sample, but enough of a sample, especially after his start, to justify a "bandwagon/bandwgn."

Can't speak for anybody else, but this kid, like Zambrano gives me hope that the Cubs can win a game. So, plz don't ask people to "chill" about an exciting young pitcher, plz?

Your comparing a young 23 yr old pitcher, making his MLB debut, witha 32 yr old reliever, he if right handed, should be out of the league? Marmol has LEGITMATE MLB talent, Rusch has legitmate KFC talent. NOT A FAIR COMPARASION.

All I am saying is, this could be beginners luck.

Possibly, but when Jered Weaver does the same thing, people are all over him, like he is a GOD. Yet, when Marmol has come up throwing bullets, you want to call it "luck." It's NOT luck to get ML hitters out.

Lets hope I'm wrong!

There is no hope, YOU ARE WRONG. Just waiting for you to jump on the Marmol bandwagon/bandwgn. :D

I boycotted watching Glendon pitch about 2 months ago. When he starts, the Cubs lose.

Marmol looks awesome. I think the Cubs will win today, and I want on the Marmol BandWGN.

I'm not jumping off yet, Marmol looked really solid apart from the Guillen homer.

If Marmol had any kind of offensive ballclub behind him, he could have won today. A rough first, but he settled in and pitched well. (a sentence you would NEVER see describing Rusch)

Anything less than an ERA of 0.00 will land the kid back in the minors. With Glendon it's just "well he didn't hit his spots today" and then send him out there again 5 days later for another good beating. :( I truly despise Dusty Baker.

He did well today after the 1st inning, but I don't have any problem with sending him to Iowa. He definitely has things to work on that he can't work on at the major league level. Rusch should definitely be DFA'd though.

I don't mind Marmol going back down to the minors. But I hope to see him again here at the latest, next year.

i think it's important to mention the teams that has faced in his two starts.. The Reds a great offense and the wild card leader and the Tigers the best team in baseball at the moment.

He should be sent down to AAA and Hill brought back up. Marmol definitely has good stuff, but he was behind almost every hitter tonight. He needs to work on his control down in the minors.

So you want to send down a kid to work on control, and call up another kid who has control problems at the major league levels? :-k

Keep the kid, until he pitches his way out of the rotation. I like Hill, but Marmol, is a kid that gives the Cubs a better chance at winning.

The reason it would be wiser to bring Hill up is this:

1. Hill needs to sick or swim in the majors. He clearly can dominate AAA. It's imperative to allow him a chance to either adjust at the major league level so the Cubs will know what they have.

2. Marmol has much to work on. It would be better for his development if that occurred in AAA.

3. At this point in the season, the chance of winning shouldn't be a factor. This season is toast, so the Cubs should act on what may give them a better chance of winning in the future. Finding out if Hill can make the adjustments is the right move there.

How many chances does Hill get to fail?

Seriously, Marmol has shown a LOT more potential than Hill has or ever will in his short time in the bigs...Hill, to me, clearly is not a starter. He can't crossover from AAA to the bigs, and seems stuck in AAAA mode. I say try him out as a LOOGY reliever.

Or let's base our decision on Hill on the limited number of innings he's received (while being bounced between Iowa and Chicago), especially when Marmol has been rushed and has things to work on.

Hill has started a total of 8 games over two seasons. Very few of those in sucession. I'm not sure what he is, but he's got some of the best numbers of any pitcher in the minor leagues, anywhere. Hill may or may not be a major league pitcher. Right now, it appears he isn't, but with his track record in the minors, he deserves a full half season in the majors to either sink or swim. He's done all he can at AAA, so it would be in the Cubs best interest to see if he can do it at the major league level if given the time to make adjustments.

Hill is 26 years old. If he's going to make the adjustments, it's sink or swim time for him. Marmol is only 23 and obviously has some adjustments to make. Marmol has never pitched at the AAA and has less than half a season at AA.

While Marmol might make the better pitcher, why do wins even matter at this point? It's time for the Cubs to stop being shortsighted and play the hand that will set them up best for the future. Right now, that is to allow Marmol to continue his development in the minors and let Hill pitch through his funk in the majors.

Hill has mastered every level but the big time. It's imperative to know whether he can do that and the only way for him to work through his struggles there is with the big league team.

He might fail. If he does, so what? You know he can't cut it and cut him lose. So we get blown out in a few games this year? Big deal. We're not making the playoffs, so it's best to use this year to evaluate what we may have next season. If Hill somewhere along the way learns to get big league hitters out like he has in AAA, then he will restore his trade value or give the Cubs another option for 2007.

It just makes a lot more sense to let Hill pitch the remainder of the year regardless of how poorly he does. It won't stunt Marmol one bit and it will allow Hill a consistent number of starts to see if he can make the appropriate adjustments to become more than just a AAA ace.

It makes sense...except the Cubs don't have the stomach for it. One or two bad starts and he is back at Iowa with Glendon going back to the rotation. Some how it's okay to suck if you are a vet.

And that's the problem with the current regime. They don't have the foresight to make the right moves at times like these.

Everyone points to the Tigers success this year, but two years ago they left Bonderman and Maroth out there to take their lumps. We should be doing the same with Hill, Williams, and Marshall.

wow, those must be 20 telling innings that marmol has thrown.

I didn't see the game, but Marmol gave up 7 runs yesterday, right? He pitched well the first game he started, but how can you state that he's shown more potential than Hill ever will? As many have suggested, Hill needs to get 8-10 consecutive starts in the majors at this point so that the organization can truly evaluate him.
