Alright, it's finally time. Group A takes the pitch tomorrow.

@ Munich: Germany v. Costa Rica, 10:55 AM CST, ESPN2

@ Gelsenkirchen: Ecuador v. Poland, 1:55 PM CST, ESPN2

Let's go Ticos in the first game, and hope the second one is interesting.

And finally, what you've all been waiting for. ESPN's World Cup equivalencies according to Julie Foudy.

Michael Jordan of the World Cup: Ronaldinho

Brett Favre of the World Cup: Pavel Nedved

Dwayne Wade of the World Cup: Cristiano Ronaldo

Kobe Bryant of the World Cup: Thierry Henry

Steve Nash of the World Cup: Landon Donovan

Foudy's pick to win it all: Netherlands

And just to get myself in the mood, even though a US-Mexico game will never happen....

I was a senior in high school during World Cup 2002 (it was one of the last days of the year) but I rubbed that game in to every single Mexican friend I had, especially my teammates. It was so much fun.

Go England !!

Don't think Italy wins. History doesn't favor Brazil, although that shouldn't matter. The host team MAY squeeze in.

The Dutch team does look pretty good however.

Quick question, is the only way for the US to advance and avoid a knock out game vs Brazil to win their group, or have Brazil somehow not win theirs?

Yep -- the US needs to finish with the same position as Brazil (either both winning their respective groups or both finishing in 2nd place) to avoid meeting them in the first single-elimination round.

Yep, basically. If Brazil wins their group and the US finishes second in theirs, they will play. Of course, if the US wins their group and Brazil finishes second in theirs, they'll still play each other.

Two things:

1. I would say that if anybody on the US team is like Steve Nash, it would be Claudio Reyna not Donovan

2. It should read: Cardinals of the World Cup = Mexico (same division, same qualifying region)

So most realistic hope for the US is to get to a game vs Brazil and not get embarrassed?

That would definitely be considered a successful run this year. Finishing ahead of Italy or the Czech Republic would be a surprise to many in Europe.

The US could win their group. I wouldn't favor them to win the group, but with the way the games are, I wouldn't be surprised if we did. On the other hand, I could see the US finishing last as well.

Euro freaks on the prowl.

:( - You saw me

Were you dressed as a cat, banging a drum with 3 others while wearing a leotard and jumping up and down, or simply spinning around and around with a blank stare on your face?
