In his last 4 starts in Iowa, he's pitched 26 innings, given up 8 earned runs, and struck out 24. Pretty solid.

I'd prefer seeing him over Rusch or Hill.

With this season likely in the tank anyway, I'm all for bringing up a bunch of the kids and seeing what they can do. Guzman struggled when he was up here in April but also showed flashes of what we know he can be, and it's worth giving him another opportunity this year to see if he can put it all together.

He only made a few Triple A starts before being called up correct??

Looks like he's improving. Might as well give him another shot. He has some dynamic stuff. It's not like he got bombed, and his era was better than hill's.

I think yo-yoing pitchers is a terrible idea. Commit to one of them and give him 10-15 starts.

nothing wrong w/ sending guzman back to iowa to right himself.

i do agree that if he comes back up again, to commit to him for a longer span. of course, prior might be back soon, which would bump guzman from the rotation, but gotta figure kerry wood will be on the DL soon, so guzman should get plenty of starts.

he wasn't right when he was called up and shouldn't have been called up.

the options were slim and none. who should have got the call?

they need to just stick w/ someone at this point. i'd prefer to see gooz get more time in AAA b/c he hasn't stayed healthy much lately. hill, on the other hand, needs to get an extended shot w/ some team, whether it's the cubs or not. he's got nothing left to prove at AAA (unless they have him down there to work on a specific pitch). last two starts...14 ip, 8 h, 2 er, 21 k's, 1 bb. time to see what he's made of.

and no, i don't think his handful of sporadic starts have shown what he's made of, so save it.

In my opinion, Guzman had his chance and I don't think we should use him again until September. How many pitchers do we have to see who can have good numbers at AAA but then can't pitch well while with the Cubs?

hasn't Hill been flat out filthy at Iowa this time around?

Yes.

How about the Cubs stick with one pitcher and let him have more than a few token starts before calling up the next one?

What a novel idea. I love it!

I don't understand why you would base calling up Guzman on his stats in the minors, when your basis for not calling up Hill has nothing to do with his minor league stats. Neither has had any more success than one another at the big leagues, and clearly Hill has been the better pitcher in AAA. I'd like to see Hill get a chance at coming up and filling Marmol's long relief role for as long as Marmol is in the rotation. If Hill does well there, it can only help any potential trade value he has.

Hill has successfuly proved he can get out AAA hitters....and to date, has proved he can't get out MLB players. If Wood is really out again, and we don't go on a 15 game win streak when Lee gets back, I would love to move Rusch for a bag of dognuts and see this rotation the rest of the year.

Zambrano

Prior

Marshall

Guzman

Hill

Marmol

Maddux

Yes, I know its a 7 man rotation, but come on do we really think they'll all be healthy and make every start? Marshall has done basically nothing but perform well (minus one really bad start)...Let Hill and Guzman pitch out the year up here and see what they can do...of course that won' t happen and we'll pick up another 35 year old has been to "anchor" the back end of our rotation.

Had his chance? What a joke. He had 4 starts. If that's a chance then nobody would be playing major league baseball.

I would be much more partial to start Guzman for the rest of the season then Hill, Hill just has not proved to be a MLB pitcher and has had alot more starts/IP than Guz at that big league level

I haven't seen enough of Hill or Guzman to know which one is better.

That being said, on a team that is 12 games under .500, either young kid (unknown) being in the rotation is better than Glendon Rusch (known and bad).

The thought process of this organization baffles me, time and time again.

I think Hendry should trade Prior, Wood, and Maddux and force Dusty to use Z, Marshall, Guzman, Marmol, and Hill. If nothing else Dusty would lose his mind and decide not to return. \:D/

(for the humor impaired: just kidding)

if by "alot" you mean 4 more starts and 25 more innings.

Guzman has a lot more potential...
