before the season that on June 6:

Cedeno would be hitting .301

Walker .309

Murton .281

Jones .309

Barrett .298

what would you guess the Cubs' record as?

Would you have also told me that DLee had been injured since game 12 and Tony Womack was on the roster and getting a number of starts?

And that Juan Pierre would have an OBP of 287 and that Rusch, Hill, and Guzman would all get a bunch of starts in addition to Marshall being entrenched in the rotation?

I don't know why some here can't take a fun question and just have fun with it.

Its a good point and I would have thought we were well in the race....sucks that all the other stuff happened.

You're right. I should follow some other team that doesn't make me want to stab myself in the forehead with a ballpoint pen most of the time.

Agreed. We've gotten some pretty good years (so far) out of players we had question marks or flat-out doubts about. It's too bad nearly everything else went wrong, but we have had some bright spots in the lineup and it's too bad they've been "wasted" on this team.

Wow..I know...I'll post the "removing pole from rectum" schematics later for those that need them.

I agree with your point about taking a fun question and answering it. In the statistics you listed, the obvious omissions are Lee and Ramirez. So, not only did the injury to Lee (Prior and Wood) happen, but the other power/RBI guy has slumped all season. There's lots of blame to go around, but if Ramirez had the numbers that we should expect at this point, the Cubs other faults might not be so obvious.

I for one, given the premise, would have guessed the Cubs at around 5 games above .500 or around there. The problem is, as we all know, is the bad things going on are really BAD! Gawd, if only Pierre didn't suck so bad and so much playing time given to so many bad players and so many starts to so many average starters...woulda coulda shoulda...

That's kind of the point.

ARAM, Lee, Wood, Prior, Pierre, (who were supposed to be the pillars of the team) and others that should have done well, have done poorly or done nothing.

The five that I listed (at least the first four) have over-achieved, at least in the BA dept.

Also an indictment of Aram and Hendry for building such a house of cards.
