Len just read the injury report during the game right now, Woody is questionable for his start on Sunday. Marmol might get the start.

Good luck to the kid if he does start, cincy is not the best place to begin a career as a pitcher.

On a side note, aren't all of Woody's starts the rest of the year questionable?

Maybe Dusty can throw him a couple of innings on Saturday to get him loose for his start on Sunday.

On Woody, I'm glad the Cubs are not rushing him. There's no way this team is good enough right now to compete for the playoffs and to push Wood would be foolish IMO.

With how sweet his stuff is, I deem his new nickname Carlos Marmol-ade (joke on marmalade for those who are a little bit slow).

I've been calling him the Marmot, which doesn't really make any sense, but it does give me the opportunity to say "marmot." And that's pretty awesome in my book.

By that criteria his nickname could also be schism which is fun to say. I encourage everyone to use the word schism in conversation with an unsuspecting person.

Why get all soar over it? This kid could be good, forgive us for being excited for a change.

There's nothing wrong with enthusiasm. However, this board has been overreacting to the recently called up rookie pitchers quite a bit this season. Given that these guys are rookies and have not had a whole lot of meaningful time in the big leagues so far, I think that is quite unfair to them. Marmol has done quite well in his limited time so far...but I think people can afford to be patient before passing that kind of judgment on him.

Things such as unrealistic expectations can really hurt a guy, ya know?

Calling up rookies and watching them perform is the only good thing about this pathetic season.

Is it unrealistic to expect him to NOT go back to the minors again. 8)

Dude is going to stick with the big club. I cant say how i feel about him as a starter in MLB yet but as a reliever i think he is very good now. In the pen he is the #3 RHP. I like his stuff better than Novoa and waaaay better than Aardsma.

I tell you what....if this dude was part of the pierre deal and i saw him pitching for florida i would be flip'ed right about now.

Cubs got something in this kid. :)

Cubs got something in this kid. :)

It appears that way. Of course we haven't seen the catastrophic injuries followed by pitching at 50 percent like all the other Cubs prodigies.

forget all that..... how bout some recent DUDES!! He's the next Roger Clemens, no no hes the next.... Pedro (yankees are my daddy's) Martinez!

It's not so much reading the message board as it is seeing a general fan reaction to guys. Cripes, pitchers such as JK Ryu and Rich Hill have been ripped on sports radio even though neither of them have pitched very much. It's like Cubs fans absolutely demand that these guys be veterans, you know?

As unfortunate as it may sound, adversity and taking your lumps is part of the maturation process all pitchers go through. Proclaiming this guy as the next big thing is not a very good approach to take both from the fan's perspective and from Marmol's perspective.

At one point can we officially rip on Hill and it's declared "fair?" Because I need to mark my calendar. In blood.

did hill kill your sister or something? Why the hatred? Why not give him a chance to develop?

Because I highly doubt he'll ever be better than a thinner Glendon Rusch as a starter. I'd happily see him get a shot as a relief thrower...I think he'd find great success there. But as long as he's trotted as a starter...man, it's painful.

And I don't have a sister. But now I know why...

maybe that would be a good place for him to start his career. his minor league numbers suggest if he can harness his control, he will be a successful major leaguer. A lot of great major league pitchers have started poorly in their first year. At this point, the Cubs aren't going to win the world series, so why not find out if Hill can become a useful major leaguer. He does nothing for the organization starting at AAA.

you can rip on a guy the moment he throws the first pitch of his career. you just look foolish for doing it. knock yourself out.
