The general managers on NSB.com gave up on Jones way too soon. The lack of patience here is disturbing but explains why many are posting on message boards and really not in baseball.

I think it's just as unlikely that he will perform at May level for an entire season as it was that he'd perform at April level for an entire season. I still don't like the deal, as it seems unlikely he'd produce at this peak rate for the next three years and justify the deal he got. But I'll be rooting for him nonetheless.

JJ has proven he can hit LHPs who don't have great stuff, but a good LHP who busts him inside still makes him look foolish at the plate. I want to keep JJ, but only if the Cubs get a decent platoon partner for him. Murton would be a logical choice if Murton's SLG against RHP doesn't improve.

All Star voting, NL catcher, as of 05.30.06:

1. Paul Lo Duca, Mets 273,059

2. Mike Piazza, Padres 264,787

3. Yadier Molina, Cardinals 256,270

4. Brad Ausmus, Astros 186,933

5. Michael Barrett, Cubs 182,309

Barrett is the leading all Cubs in voting, with Jones nowhere in sight.

That's ABSURD that Molina, Ausmus and Lo Duca are all ahead of Barrett. Nothing short of ABSURD.

As of this moment, Molina ranks DEAD LAST in VORP for NL catchers, out of 42.

Some notables.

1. Brian McCann 15.8

2. Michael Barrett 13.3

3. Damian Miller 12.4

6. Mike Piazza 9.4

7. Paul Lo Duca 8.8

8. Johnny Estrada 7.1

10. Brad Ausmus 5.9

41. Henry Blanco -8.9

42. Yadier Molina -11.8

I think most people should be voting for either Barrett or Piazza, personally. McCann, Miller, and company aren't likely to keep their paces up. And if anybody votes for Molina right now, they need to be taken back behind the barn for a little "Old Yeller" treatment.

McCann is gonna be out for most of the season if not the whole season, I think.

I'm thinking maybe Eyre will be an all-star.....?

Oof, thats when you know your team stinks, when your middle reliever is your lone all star.

I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I'd want Barrett behind the plate catching to decide who gets HFA in the World Series

It's hard to fault the posters. Jones had two poor seasons in a row in Minnesota as well as starting slow this year. It was justified for people to think he was through as a productive major leaguer. It's good that he's proving people wrong (at least for the time being), but you can't really blame people for writing him off. If he had good seasons the last couple of years, then maybe giving up on him after a slow start this year would have been impatient.

If you can't blame people for writing off Jones, you certainly can't blame people for writing off Prior.
