The team needs production and my point is the idiots that booed Jones after 20 abs and refuse to admit his 900 ops has helped are not providing a level playing field , no matter how they guise the argument. Coach L

Please point out this person/persons, and the post/posts that indicate this point of view. Because to be honest, I don't think it exists.

I don't think the booing for Jones was solely the result of his batting average or OPS. His lack of defense and base running miscues were a significant factor in that. Some of his base running screw ups were the types of mistakes that you wouldn't expect a Little Leaguer to make (at least not more than once).

Agreed. When you sign on the dotted line to earn millions of dollars to play a game, you are expected to have your head in the game. Baserunning blunders like the ones that Jones displayed made it clearly obvious his head was not in the game. And, yes, he totally deserves to be booed when his head isn't in the game.

I'll throw my hat into that ring as well. It wasn't just the hitting. It was the overall suckiness of his play.

He deserved those boos, and he got them.

And now, he's playing better. So he should be cheered. Pretty simple concept.

.....oh, and if he sucks again he should be booed again 8)

Especially when it happens 3 times in less than 2 weeks. I'm not saying boo the guy day in and day out because of it, but if he gets a few "BOOO-URNS" sessions because of it, hey, live and learn. And if you continually strike out on the SAME pitch over and over and over and over and over again (low and inside) to the point even a child can notice, people get ticked off. Fans cheer and boo over smart and stupid playing. I say boo the play, not the player.

Try Bleed Cubbie Blue.com. And that's not meant as an insult. If you only want "positive" articles/posts/discussions about the Cubs, you're set for life there. When this team gets me down, I read that page for a little pick me up.

Thanks. I like a balance of information and opinions. I know the Cubs have been bad for years, I just refuse to jump off the ledge prematurely with every player who goes through a slump. There is plenty of room for criticism with this team, but lets not throw every player under the bus without good reason.

I liked this site during the offseason, it brings me down during the season. I'll spend less time here, which will not bother anybody. :)

People were booing him before his base running gaffes, which i thought were atrocious. Please dont insult anyones intelligence by asking if people make a living hammering dusty and certain players on this board. Yeah its your right to boo and do anything , besides throwing crap at a player. Just like its mine to call out the hypocrasy when i see it.

The cubs still have quite a few warts that need to be lazered off. I dont know if this management team will be the ones to get it done.

But they made some excellent moves along with the poor ones. I am willing to see how the year shakes out. Coach L

I guess I'm not seeing the fans who booed Jones and are now refusing to acknowledge he is playing better. Can you provide a few examples of posts where someone is saying Jones is still not contributing?

Let me get this straight. You have no issues with calling people on this message board idiots, but you still feel comfortable making the "please don't insult anyones intelligence" speech? I don't get it.

Isn't that a bit hypocritical?

Giving credit to a guy going at a 900 rate, you would have to be insane to not. Im talking about the posts up to the last week. Look for yourself if you have the courage. Coach L. Crickets indeed

I'm not going to look for things that don't exist. You're the one making the accusations without anything to back it up.

Let me repeat. Who is not giving credit to Jones for his hitting? He's hitting great. No one is disputing this. You're arguing against a point of view that does not exist.

Current production--> decent deal

Off-season free agent prices--> decent deal

The crowd was still booing Jacque as recently as his 2 hr. game. These people are certainly not rooting FOR him. Seriously, if people can't let management decisions go and cheer for a player when he is producing, what future does he have in Chicago? It's just a waiting game for many of these "realists", and guess what? Jones will go into a slump and all these "realists" will feel great about not cheering for Jones since they were right. Then he'll hit the ball again, and the "realists" will remind us of his career averages (instead of enjoying the ride and cheering for Jones) until, once again, he slumps and they were "right". Here's a tip, enjoy the ride, b/c 5 million a year for a veteran in this day and age won't buy a whole heck of a lot.

It sure seems that some Cubs fans prefer to root 'against management' as opposed to 'for the team' unless the Cubs are really producing.

People boo Jones when he airmailes a cut-off man or throws a ball into the dirt (which happens quite often). I don't necessarily agree with it, but that doesn't mean they aren't rooting for him. They are expressing their displeasure with his poor play. That particular problem has plagued him all season, and fans have noticed.

Whatever. I guess the only true fans out there are the ones who just close their eyes to terrible management decisions.

Jesus, get over youselves. Not every "fan" expresses their "fandom" (is that a word?) in the same way. Some feel compelled to point out what they think are mistakes, others don't. It doesn't mean that you are a better fan then them.

That's not good enough. YOU are the one calling people idiots. Instead of generalizing that we are all idiots, please feel free to call us out by name.

If you can't, then quit generalizing. It doesn't become you AT ALL.

Learn to read. I said some on purpose. Nice try to get group think behind your own opinion. I never said or will say everyone . you are the one generalizing par usual. I could care less about someone having an opinion on a player i have said that before. So you need to take your own advice when someone sticks up for a player. If the shoe does not fit you dont wear it. Coach L

What's it going to take for you to quit attacking posters?

If you can't debate an argument without getting personal, don't get into the debate. Period!

And this is not a suggestion. IT'S A WARNING!

Thanks thought police , i will try to remember that . I dont care if you agree or not. I dont think people who boo 20 abs into a season are dumb. Thats my right , just like they have the right to boo. I think there are many great posts on this board. So dont worry i dont take it personally , nor do i need warning. It does not phase me either way. Coach L

So why aren't you raving about and defending Neifi because of the stellar month or so he had last season?

Neifi's case is done. Cub fans have it set in their minds and at least he won't ever produce like the last scapegoat is currently.

I love Neifi as a backup and only get mad at Dusty (never booed Neifi) for playing him too much.

I did want to get rid of Sammy for 3 years prior to him leaving, and Wood has been my least favorite Cub for another 2 years so I' not above criticism, but Jones doesn't deserve much this season. And the booing at 0-12 was disgusting. It was like Cubs fans didn't remember that you don't HAVE to boo your own players.
