More 35 year olds please.

Coming off an awful year he's doing crap again this season, although he's hit lefties relatively well.

You forgot to add over-paid to that first part. Typical Cubs' move. They have no clue. Probably gave up something good to get him too.

He's just going to be a bench player, provides some pop off the bench. I don't know why it took so long to acquire him. Lords knows we shouldn't have to give up too much for him.

Maybe he just needed a change of scenery...

Oh wait, he already tried the "change of scenery" card.

Nevin had a pretty solid April but has been absolutely awful in May.

EDIT: Does this mean Bynum is a goner? Or Hairston maybe?

Either one is fine by me.

Can he play RF? Can he still play 3b? If not with Lee probably returning in a couple of weeks this move is about a month to late. Even a month ago I am not sure it is a great move.

The DMN article says the Rangers will pick up most of his salary and the Rangers are not expecting to obtain a valuable prospect. Basically they are just wanting to prevent an ugly situation in the lockerroom since he's lost his starting job.

I'm not opposed to it. It would be one thing if he were actually blocking a potential MLB player currently laboring in the minors. Sadly, I'm afraid he's not.

I just heard this reported as likely on the Ranger-Mariner radio broadcast. GM Daniels of Rangers would not comment, Nevin not in the dugout according to announcers.

If he starts at 1B for the next few weeks before Lee comes back, and Walker moves to 2B, his ability to hit home runs alone should be at least a small improvement over Neifi, Hairston, Bynum, Mabry, etc.

Levine on ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago reporting that deal is done. Texas expects to receive a "major legaue player in return". That's a contradiction in terms depending on who it is, no?

I knowhis avg and OBP are low, but he has nine ding-dongs. We could use the punch.

Nevin's projected stats for 06' base on his current pace. Rob Deer-like:

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI AVG OBP SLG

Projected: 156 597 88 129 27 0 31 105 0 .216 .307 .415

Per ESPN.com.

if it's any consolation, his babip is very low for his line drive percentage, and his isod and isop are pretty good.

maybe his luck will turn around with the cubs.

OK, so he'll play 1B until Lee gets back, creating a lineup that will look somehting like this:

Pierre

Walker

Murton

ARam

Nevin

Barrett

Jones

Cedeno

What happens when Lee gets back? I guess he will provide some much-needed right-handed pop off the bench. Who gets traded? Wood?

[falls out of chair]

That's the best laugh I've had all day. You're apparently confused - he's not going to St Louis, where he'd put up career best numbers for 4 months, he's coming to the Cubs. Baker is going to beat whatever plate discipline Nevin has right out of him.

Astros add Clemens, we counter with a washed-up Nevin. Brilliant!

More copy-cat behavior from Hendry - we both got guys who were sitting around and doing nothing in TX.

I think Nevin a little too much success in the early part of this decade if you know what I mean.... Edited by UMFan83
