Paul Sullivan Gets the Hammer

Remember a couple weeks ago when The TRIB's Paul Sullivan and Dan McGrath were called on the carpet at Wrigley Field. MacPhail and Hendry cussed them out for negative Cubs stories. One of which was the Jacque Jones 'dissing Cubs fans' story. Andy actually showed he had a pulse and a potty mouth. Looks like that wasn't enough.

 

Now Sully is going on hiatus with his ChicagoSports Q & A. Going on 'hiatus' with less than 2 months gone in the season? This is a pretty blatant attempt at silencing Cubs critics. McGrath is one of Dusty's best friends and won't back Sully. Wonder if Sully will be doing the Cubs beat for long.

 

And wonder why the Cubs won't discuss the drunken female fan throwing a ball at Jacque Jones? No arrest..no details...where did she get the ball?

What would it take to get those goons replaced in the Cubs Ivory tower? I wish Andy would resign, but I'm sure he won't.

I'm disgusted with Sullivan getting berated for his coverage if the story is anywhere close to accurate, and I suspect it is.

 

That said, Sullivan did take a hiatus from the Q&A last season and had celebrities fill in while he was gone. I think he had some Travel Section gig or something. His hiatus this year has been planned for some time.

On the "drunken female fan" incident, I think the fairly obvious explanation was that the girl was underage and the Cubs did not want to take the heat for serving an underage girl.

Sullivan is on today's panel for Chicago Tribune Live on CSN. He is on there along with Sox beat writer Mark Gonzalez. They are comparing both the Cubs and Sox. I guess they're just adding insult to injury for Cub fans. Edited May 25, 2006 by RonnieWooWooSanto
