Adam Wainwright hit a home run on the first pitch he ever saw in the major leagues. Yes, that's right, Adam Wainwright hit a home run. Who does he play for? You guessed it, the Cardinals.

Top 3rd: St. Louis

- J. Marquis hit for B. Thompson

- J. Marquis tripled to deep right center

Top 5th: St. Louis

- A. Wainwright homered to deep left

Top 9th: St. Louis

How's that for hitting by your pitchers?

Well, Brad Thompson made his first start for the team and didn't throw a shutout, so it had to be made up for somehow.

My god. Tony Larussa could take a crap on the field, and the piece of feces would pitch a perfect game and hit for the cycle. I hate my life.

Don't worry Otis. My Dad will call me tonight and say the same thing.

It's not a fun time to be a Cub fan.

Sorry. I really do feel for you folks.

Every year one of the things I root for is a close race for the division lead between the Cards and the Cubs. It's such a great rivarly, and I like it when it garners the attention it deserves from the national media. I always want to see the Cards on top, but I want the Cubs to do well too because that only makes the rivalry that much stronger.

I don't give two hoots about any other team in our division, and I hope they all play miserably.

almost the cycle. Has a pitching staff ever done that in one game?

I would imagine it has somewhere along the line.

Ruth used to be a pitcher...wonder if it ever happened in a game that he pitched?

First time since 1969 a team has had 3 pitchers record 3 different hits in the same game on the same team..

of course ESPNEWS also doesnt give me the answer I'm looking for the last time a team had extra base hits by 3 different pitchers in the same game on the same team..

Even the CUBS' pitchers are in a horrendous slump [sigh].

Geez, the Cards have three pitchers who are better hitters than anyone in the Cubs' lineup (besides Z).

Kerry Wood can also hit a bit.
