Is it just me or has Murton been trying to pull the ball more which in turn is dropping his average. He does'nt seem to go with the pitch as much as he did in the early part of the season.

My early season prediction of .260/.320/.400 seems like it was a little high. He currently has an ops of .699

Let's blame the staff for Murton's slump guys! Must be that darn coaching staff!

It's been said over and over on the radio broadcasts if not in print that Clines and Mathews wanted Murton to pull the ball more. These reports started about 2-3 weeks ago.

It doesn't take a PhD to connect the dots on that one.

Excuse me for not living in the Chicago area...I was unaware of such reports.

I think its foolish to put the blame squarely on the coaching staff for Murton not putting up numbers.

I think Murton plainly is starting to endure a full season of MLB baseball, and therefore hes going to have his ups, and downs.

Think of the bright spots of our lineup. DLee and Aram, previously werent doing so hot, but coming to Chicago they simply got better. Cedeno is playing well, and Barrett got better coming to Chicago.

Even though I think the coaching staff is bollocks, and totally [expletive], you can't put ALL the blame on them.

No insult meant. I'm sorry if it came across that way.

I think that it could be a combination of Murton slumping as well as the coaching staff. If Murton starts to slump, the coaching staff would probably offer suggestions on how to break out of the slump. Apparently those suggestions aren't working yet. Hopefully he'll break out of it.

When you start noticing that his mechanics are changing for the worse...

Then yea.

I wouldn't say that this attempt at producing more power has failed... yet. He's still got plenty of time this season to figure some things out. I like that he recognizes his need to put more oompf into the ball, especiallly on a station to station baseball team like we have right now.

I'm getting sick of bad calls against Matt. He had an AB only in name against Garcia this weekend. He struck out looking at a low pitch way away, and a high inside pitch. Umps have to make the right calls, or no one is a good hitter. I think we'll still see the same Murton after two strikes, but harder swings and an effort to pull a little more earlier, especially when ahead.

You got that right. Although growing up near Chicago (Hammond similar to Belleville to St. Louis geographically) dealing with Sox fans was no picnic either.

All said Cardinal fans are easier to deal with than Sox fans...much easier.
