Honestly, I think the best thing Cubs fans can hope for is Baker not being offered an extention. I think he'll finish out the season and management will determine what to do with him after that. But I just don't see him getting fired.

 

agreed. root for absolute failure and that means a lot of guys will have sucked. not a good way to go into 2007.

 

I didn't say that I wanted the Cubs to tank the rest of the season. I just said that I didn't think Hendry would fire Baker. Based on that belief, the best case scenario is Baker doesn't get an extention at the end of the season. I didn't say anything about failure.

Sox = White Sox

 

Sox is stupid, just like Cards or Flubs or Scrubs or whatever unclever play on a team's name that can be concocted. All it's going to do is rile people up.

 

My dad refers to the Cubs as the Flubs sometimes. I think it's funny. It's just good natured ribbing. If you get riled up over this maybe you shouldn't be watching baseball. Have you seen some of the shirts that Red Sox fans wear about the Yankees? Calling the White Sox the White Sox is nothing compared to the Red Sox fans.

I've always thought it made the person sound childish when they said it because it was usually preceded with a somewhat incoherent rambling about something with no basis in truth and succeeded by a giggle that would make a 4th grader proud.

My thoughts exactly. We used to pick on kids names in grade school, and thought we were so clever. I got over that.

Being a Lakers fan I love to say Suckramento Queens. Also, I go to UC Davis and our "rival" is Sacramento State - Suck State.

 

ok well that makes sense because the Lakers and the Kings had rivalries in the playoffs and the teams basically hated each other back when they were the dominant teams in the West.

 

are the Sox our rival? I don't think so because IMO your rival has to play in the same division/conference as you. Do the Bulls consider the Jazz their rival because they played each other in 2 NBA Finals? Do the Bears consider the Patriots their rival because they played each other in a SB? I know you can use the city excuse all you want, but face it..for most of the players, it's just another 6 games. I'd much rather beat St. Louis, Houston, Cincy, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh 14 times than beat the Sox 6 times.

 

and going back on topic (because I don't want this to go to rivalries), Baker won't be canned. I'm assured of it. If he didn't get canned on Sunday afternoon or yesterday, he won't be fired. Yeah, there's a chance we might not re-hire him, but he's not going to be fired in the regular season. Hendry's quotes in the paper today proved me that.

Yea, like he has done for the past two off-seasons. Instead of correcting problems he's either magnified them or utterly rejected that they exist.
