This is the reason I hate Steinbrenner. I don't mind that he spends $200mil on payroll because it's allowed. He's playing within the rules. But he is the only owner in the leage who would rip his team after one bad loss. It's one thing what Leyland did with the Tigers after they went on their losing streak. But what Steinbrenner is doing is just stupid. He needs to learn that sometimes he just needs to keep his big mouth shut.

Trade him to the Cubs for Perez, Rusch and Bynum (got cut some payroll to take on A-Rod's salary, dude).

You're right...that was definitely uncalled for. You got to admire Steinbrenner's desire to win, but comments like that don't need to be made after one loss. Though, I suppose since George has never made mistakes in his entire life, it must be hard to live with others who are so imperfect.

he's had freakouts like this before. remember, this is the same owner who wrote a letter to new york city apologizing for his team losing the '81 world series to the dodgers. he'll praise arod in a few days and everything will be all hunky-dory.

Their 3rd baseman is a bum. Just punishment would be to send him to the Cubs (paying all of his salary) and forcing him to play SS. He'll really feel bad when that Ronny Cedeno kid has to move to 2B.

I heard Patrick and Olberman recently discussing that Steinbrenner is being shielded from the media. They basically implied that he might have some form of dementia. He's getting up there in age. Iirc he's in his mid-70's.

This is why the organization has tried to keep Steinbrenner away from the media in the last couple years. He's losing his mind.

It's also why the NY media LOVES Steinbrenner...he makes for a great quote. :P

It's hard to feel sorry for A-rod, though.

Heck, if your boss is paying you that kind of money, and you screw up, I don't see a problem with him telling people "he screwed up".

It's OK for random people to post gay comments about Jim Edmonds on a public message board, but Steinbrenner can't say that he's angry at one of his employees?

Weird.

I don't think anyone should get their half-shirt in a wad over tongue-in-cheek comments about Edmonds.

The rumor is he has Alzheimer's.

But they should be uptight over something that Steinbrenner says about his employee?

When the senile old owner of the biggest baseball franchise in the league starts teeing off (unnecessarily) on the reigning MVP simply because the team got thumped by a rival, people will comment on it.

No one is uptight about it. People are stating the obvious-George is losing it and is calling ou that team's best player for no good reason.

Of course not. I hold the employer-employee relationship to be sacrosanct. He signs their checks. If Steinbrenner tells them that Yankees can't have beards, then they should have to shave their beards. If Steinbrenner wants Giambi to lay down more sac bunts, then Giambi should start giving himself up for the team. If Steinbrenner calls a player's mother names, I think that's OK, too. If Steinbrenner punishes his players by allowing only cold showers in the clubhouse, that's fine with me. If Steinbrenner wants to go into the clubhouse and spank the players with a big wooden paddle, then so be it (although Edmonds might ask to be traded to the Yankees if that were to happen).

No one should get upset over what Steinbrenner says about an employee. NOBODY!

I agree with everything except for the Edmonds part. Otherwise, good post.

If so, that sucks. I have an uncle w/ alzheimer's. It's a sad way to go, as some people think it's really funny.

Yep. It's very tough on families. It makes me feel for Steinbrenner and those close to him.
